Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

Job Requirements
The following is required:
- An Alaska type M teaching certificate.Education:
- If the instructor is enlisted, a high school graduate or equivalent based on a state-issued certificate of GED test is required. Preference will be given to college graduates with other qualifications, to the same degree as other applicants.If the instructor is an officer, a bachelor's degree or higher is required. This qualification may be waived for a period of 4 years from the time of initial hire, if Anchorage School District authorities agree, while the instructor works toward obtaining a bachelor's degree.
- For Officer Positions: Retired members O4 to O6, be retired with at least 20 years of active duty, and must not have been retired from active duty for more than five years at the time of employment.For Enlisted Positions: Retired members E6 to E9, be retired with at least 20 years of active duty, and must not have been retired from active duty for more than five years at the time of employment.

- Maintains competency in JROTC instruction.Employs diagnostic methods to accommodate and identify student proficiency levels and subsequently plans short and long range programs designed to accommodate these identified needs.Establishes a physical, emotional, and intellectual climate conducive to the teaching/learning process.Uses effective teaching methods for the achievement of desired objectives.Employs a variety of methods and materials which will motivate the JROTC student to earn and seek additional learning experiences.Provides leadership in the establishment of positive relationships between students and between students and teachers.Selects, develops, and employs appropriate evaluation techniques to assess student progress and instructional effectiveness.Assists students in accepting and practicing standards of good decorum.Promotes harmonious and cooperative relationships with staff, parents, and the community.
