Summary:

Within the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools' Office of School Options and Innovation, the Department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides project-based, career-focused learning to accelerate students along the path to success in college and careers. Learning is both classroom and work based with all high school programs of study articulating to industry credentials, 2 year degrees and/or 4 year degrees. CTE also supports the work of our middle and early colleges where students simultaneously pursue a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree and/or up to two years of transferrable college credit. CTE is present in every CMS middle and high school and serves over 48,000 students.

Essential Responsibilities for Assigned School:

Work-Based Learning Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the school liaison to Mayor's Youth Employment Program (MYEP)
  • Collaborate with CTE teachers and CTE instructional Facilitator to identify students interested in internships, facilitate field trips, job shadows and speakers
  • Collaborate with CTE teachers, CTE Instructional Facilitator and central office to build high quality industry partnerships that support the pathway development and are embedded in the classroom
  • Facilitate the relationship between the industry partner and the CTE teacher, including but not limited to generating ideas with the teacher of how to engage the partner in the classroom
  • Coordinate work readiness training, including but not limited to becoming a Working Smart Master Trainer
  • Designs and implements professional development for CTE teachers to provide career guidance to students related to job skills, goal setting, decision making, study skills and problem solving
  • Collaborate with other CTE school support personnel to support NAF industry boards
  • Assure that all CTE students create CFNC or Naviance accounts
  • Develops strategy and accountability measures for engaging all levels of students in work based learning
  • Collaborate with MYEP to identify summer check-in support during internship period

Career & College Promise (CCP) Responsibilities:
  • Build CTE Central Piedmont Community College cohort
  • Collaborate with Pathway Development Coordinator and CTE teachers to forecast cohorts of students engaged in a pathway who are interested in taking the next CTE course in a program for CPCC
  • Promote articulated credit to pathway students
  • Develop, manage and track all CCP opportunities
  • Provide informational sessions for parents showcasing CCP
  • Collaborate with pathway students to ensure all have a plan for college and career
  • Collaborate with counselors regarding pathways and opportunities for completers

Other duties:
  • Connect and complete Concentrator Feedback Survey with at least 85% completion
  • Participate in district and national professional development activities, including academy specific events
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials to promote pathways and academies
  • Collaborate with CTE Support Team to ensure all CTE Teachers and students are successful
  • Assist CTSO Advisors with recruitment and promotion
  • Serve as the National Technical Honor Society advisor
  • Collaborate with CTE Support Team to ensure all CTE Teachers and students are successful
  • Performs related duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

Minimum
  • Bachelor's degree and current license in CTE Program area OR Masters Degree in School Counseling or Career Counseling
  • One year of industry related work experience within the past 5 years in business, industry or labor; or as a coordinator of work-based learning; or as a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) advisor

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

Must be eligible for the CTE Career Development Coordinator license #747. 6 semester hours (3 in Counseling theory and 3 elective in Career Development and Counseling, Career and Life Planning or Career Development and occupational information) FCS Course is offered through NC Works Training Center or NCDPI to fulfill this requirement
