Food & Nutrition Services Manager in Training/Various School Locations

 

Assists the Manager in the daily operations of a school cafeteria, particularly in managing the preparation and serving of food.  Majority of the time is spent in actual food preparation.  Work procedures are outlined in detail.  Work is performed under general supervision.  Responsible for the supervision of other food service workers; some judgment is required. Expected to be promoted to manager position once all requirements of the MIT Program and departmental needs are met.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist manager in planning, coordinating, assigning and participating as required in the pre preparation of food; organizing and/or assisting with special catering functions and the administration of the vending program if applicable.
  • Assist manager in accurately maintaining a variety of records and accounts, including free, reduced, paid and reimbursable lunches and/or breakfasts where applicable, food production reports, employee timesheet and payroll records, etc.
  • Assist manager in training, supervising and resolving personnel problems for assigned workers.
  • Partner with manager in processing prepayments and customer's account management, deposits, preparing daily and monthly reports.
  • Partner with manager in counting and balancing cash received, preparing deposit and making bank deposit.
  • Partner with manager in maintaining inventory; ordering supplies.
  • Assist manager in developing, planning and assigning work schedules;
  • Partner with manager in opening kitchen, setting up equipment, preparing cafeteria for serving, setting up monies for cash registers with cashiers.
  • Assist manager in supervising the cleaning and sanitizing of eating utensils, counters and equipment.
  • Assist manager in ensuring appropriate (proper) equipment maintenance.
  • Assist manager in receiving, verifying quantity received and signing for food delivered to school. Resolving any differences.
  • Assist manager in working with other food service workers, school officials and staff to identify and correct problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.  
  • Fill-in at various locations as needed.

Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of the managing of the food preparation operation.  Working knowledge of the preparation and merchandising of nutritious meals; of operating modern food service equipment, federal health and nutrition requirements and sanitation practices.  Working knowledge of federal and/or nonfederal school lunch and breakfast program requirements and regulations. Some knowledge of administrative and office procedures including record keeping, record preparation, inventory control, money and personnel management.  Demonstrated ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations; to prepare and merchandise food and work safely with equipment.  Demonstrate the ability to manage cafeteria functions and personnel, train others, prioritize work and identify and correct problems.  Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff, coworkers, vendors and the public with courtesy, tact, patience and consistency.  

Requirements:
Successful completion of manager's training program and ServSafe classes; minimum high school degree or equivalent or related work experience.  Five years minimum food service experience and management experience preferred or a combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must successfully complete related computer training. Some local travel may be required.  Some local travel may be required.  Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
