Title: Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning
Qualifications: Kansas District Level Administrative License, Masters/Doctorate Preferred
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
Supervises: Teaching & Learning Department staff
JOB GOAL:
Responsible for providing leadership and expertise in developing, achieving, and maintaining the district's educational programs and related services to increase student achievement through effective leadership, supervision, collaboration, and coordination and to assist the Superintendent in the accomplishment of the goals of the District Strategic Plan.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
- Serves as the leader of all areas aligned to academic outcomes and the implementation of district curriculum and instructional resources in all Geary County Schools
- Supervises and provides leadership to the following departments: teaching and learning, special education, early learning, career and technical education, assessment and accountability, alternative education, and educational technology
- Assumes a leadership role of the Superintendent's Cabinet, assisting with long-range strategic planning, developing system-wide budgets, plans, policies and activities
- Directs the planning, organization, administration and fiscal management of all aspects of the district's curriculum and instruction program
- Ensures academic integrity and provides quality assurance reviews to address areas in need of attention
- Supervise the district's school improvement efforts, including the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation, district development, and district assessment.
- Effectively communicate and interpret district goals, improvement plans, and program evaluation data to the community, staff and media.
- Oversee district testing program and analyze, maintain and interpret test data for Board of Education, staff and community.
- Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations on the academic program and accountability; conducts staff meetings; and attends local/state board meetings as needed
- Works collaboratively with Principals and coordinates efforts to insure the successful operation of instructional programs in the district schools
- Provides input on professional development activities related to curriculum and instruction for the district; monitors the latest research, trends, and development in education and interprets these matters for the Superintendent, Cabinet and staff members
- Brainstorms ways to increase organizational efficiency across the district
- Ensures monthly, quarterly and biannual data meetings occur and communicates the progress being made toward accomplishing established goals.
Provide either direct coordination or general supervision in the planning, implementation, compliance, evaluation, monitoring, and control in the following areas:
- Elementary and Secondary Education
- State and Federal Programs, Grants
- District Assessment
- Instructional Aspects of District Technology Plan
- District Library/Media Program
- School Improvement
- Professional Development
- Summer School
- Oversight of Research Projects conducted in the district.
- Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
- Executive Director of Instructional Innovations and Technology
- Head Library Media Specialist
- Director of Student Support Services
- McKinney Vento Coordinator
- ELL Coordinator
- Executive Director of Special Education
- All assigned personnel as identified by the Superintendent.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
