Job Description
JOB GOAL:

• To provide support to engage and to empower all families to be active partners in their students' learning.
• To provide developmental and language screenings to Pre-K and Kindergarten students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist the Family Welcome Center team in planning Early Childhood parent services and activities designed to welcome, engage, empower, and support all New Bedford families through diverse programming and community connections.
2. Assist the Family Welcome Center team with the registration of new students and with duties related to the recruitment, enrollment, placement of schools and special programs.
3. Administer developmental and language screenings to preschool students.
4. Provide immediate summary and interpretation of screening results to parents and/or guardians.
5. Maintain accurate record on all administered screenings.
6. Assist students and parents with completion of registration materials. Provide brief orientation to new students and families.
7. Assist schools and collaborates with New Bedford Public Schools community agencies to ensure families are partners in their child's education and welcome them as active participants in other programs at New Bedford sites.
8. Participate in the Family Welcome Center plan development to capitalize on New Bedford community strengths and expand family engagement.
9. Facilitate parent involvement activities linked to student learning organized by the Family Welcome Center.
10. Attend parent nights associated with the Family Welcome Center and other New Bedford Public School sites.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Job Requirements
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Will act as a point person between all Parent Support Specialists and Principals, FWC, Wraparound Manager, Director of Supplemental Services, and Executive Director of Education Access & Pathways. Will help to coordinate the Family Institute for Student Success Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School Degree or equivalent required.
2. Must be fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese and/or Creole (read, write, speak).
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with schools, families, and preschool students is required.
4. Strong knowledge of community agencies and partnerships to assist families and their needs.
5. Knowledge and understanding of Special Education, English Language Learners (ELL), Migrant, McKinney-Vento, and Early Childhood programs.
6. Basic Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
7. Excellent Organization and management skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a non-union position

WORK YEAR: Calendar year position - Twelve (12) months/ Flexible Schedule

SALARY: 40,000.00
