POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist - Bilingual Spanish Speaker preferred
EFFECTIVE: 2019-2020 School Year
188 days a year, 5 days a week, 7.5 hours a day
As a member of the District's Mental Health Team, the school psychologist is responsible for reviewing and completing assessments based on referrals that are submitted throughout the district. The school psychologist provides guidance and identifies developmental, learning and behavioral needs of students. Utilize the information gleaned to determine optimal support or guidance for culturally and linguistically diverse students. Collaborate with teachers, involve staff, and parent/guardian regarding steps to improve the development of the students as they move toward adulthood. Design and implement research-based programs and interventions to assure students are receiving the most up to date and proven techniques. Act as liaison between students, teachers, involved staff and parent/guardians. Advocate for homeless youth and families to ensure their rights under Title X are followed. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders. Provide support and training to building efforts in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Experience analyzing and interpreting data to appropriately identify language learners as students with disabilities.
- Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices in assessment, understanding the limitations of cognitive, social emotional and other assessment with children who speak a language other than English.
- Evaluate the student's ability and formulates the student's profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
- Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention.
- Review referral data, history and assessment data to develop.
- Review IEPs and procedural safeguards with parents, students and staff.
- Monitor, evaluate and document each student's progress utilizing appropriate measurements.
- Participate in the District's behavior support team.
- Promote an environment respecting the dignity of the student.
- Teach, monitor, and collaborate with educational personnel, community agencies, parent/guardian, and students to increase understanding of the student's needs.
- Maintain regular communication with parents by means of email, phone calls, conferences and progress reports when required.
- Assist parents with understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standards.
- Manage student behavior through monitoring, supervising and assessing behavioral patterns.
- Utilize appropriate corrective methods to modify behavior.
- Develop and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) where necessary.
- Instruct students on socially acceptable behaviors and personal development skills.
- Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with school district regulations and legal requirements.
- Provide continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, parents, and community based service providers.
Actively participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements.
- Use professional literature; evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
- Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Possible supervision of support personnel.
Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems
BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
Manage and maintain inventory of equipment and assessments.
Project needs for budget planning.
Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
Review services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

- Master's degree in School Psychology or School Social Work.
- 3-5 years of experience working with at-risk populations and English Language Learners.
- Bilingual - Spanish - Preferred
- Must be knowledgeable about researched-based, effective teaching practices, and state content standards, curriculum, inclusive of English Language Development and bilingual education.
- Certified through the National Association of School Psychologist.
- English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License.
- Valid Colorado Special Services License with an endorsement as a School Psychologist or equivalent endorsement.
- Cultural and Linguistically Diverse educator endorsement (Linguistically Diverse Educator)- Preferred

Provide support to homeless youth and families.
Maintain a generally positive attitude.
Observe all District policies and procedures.
Adhere to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds
Occasional lifting of up fifty (50) pounds.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing.
Occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
Mostly clean and comfortable.
The work environment is high energy.
Physical restraint may be necessary to provide safety for students and others.
May encounter noise, odors or bodily fluids.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Dependent upon education, experience and the Master Agreement.
