JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Principal - Cookeville High School
Department: Teaching & Learning
Reports To: Director of Schools
The purpose of this position is to ensure that each student at Cookeville High School is provided
with the highest quality educational experience and opportunities in preparation for the college, careers, and life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This is a standard position description to be used for certificated administrative positions with similar duties and responsibilities. Administrators assigned to the position description may or may not be assigned all of the duties identified herein.

● Provides leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating school curriculum, programs, and operations

● Serve as the instructional leader for his/her school
● Uses multiple measures and data analysis to assess teaching and learning effectiveness
● Guides all stakeholders in setting and accomplishing ambitious goals that result in improved student achievement, academic growth, and the development of a well-rounded graduate
● Creates and maintains a collaborative school climate that is conducive to the professional learning process and the academic achievement and growth of all students

Human Capital Management/Resources
● Performs the process of teacher and staff evaluations with fidelity and provides accurate, timely and actionable feedback that leads to improved student achievement
● Delegates duties and establishes clear expectations for all faculty, staff, and students while maintaining ownership of the responsibility for the decisions made and the actions taken.
● Demonstrates sensitivity to staff members' needs.
● Supports and recognizes the professional growth of staff members.
● Supervises, evaluates, and provides feedback for teachers, support staff and students.
Student Services/Relationships
● Builds an environment conducive to engaging, challenging, and creative learning – clean, safe, respectful, purposeful, challenging and positive
● Establish and maintains a fair and consistent Code of Student Conduct as the basis of judgments in disputes, confrontations and/or disciplinary cases.
● Communicates school policies relating to student behavior to students and parents.
● Maintains fair and consistent discipline in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines
● Provides supervision for the after-school program and other special activities as necessary.
● Notifies and collaborates with parents in a timely manner to resolve student/student and student/faculty issues
Community/Stakeholder Relationships
● Maintains a positive, working relationship with parents and other stakeholders
● Demonstrates a commitment to the district, school, students, and staff
● Provides a program of recognition for students, faculty, staff, and community partners
● Knows the community and provides clear and effective oral and written communication
● Is accessible to school and community members
General Leadership/Management Skills
● Takes ownership of the efficient, effective and sound management of the school’s fiscal and material resources according to the Tennessee Internal Uniform Accounting Policy Manual.
● Oversees and administers all aspects of the high school budget.
● Understands and consistently applies administrative procedures, school board policies, and school law.
● Reviews, revises, and implements the school crisis management plan
● Demonstrates proficiency in allocating available resources (time, personnel, materials, support) to best support student achievement and the development of the whole child
● Accepts and completes special projects, engages in professional learning and completes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Director of Schools
Application Requirements:
Candidates must submit an online application and should attach a copy of all college and/or university transcripts; PRAXIS scores; proof of licensure; resume, and provide three Professional references. All supporting documents should be attached to the application during the application process.
Minimum Qualifications
● Minimum education and experience requirements include Master's degree and five years’ experience as a teacher, administrator or supervisor, at least one year of which must have been at the school level to which assigned. Prior experience as a high school principal highly preferred.
● Must possess or be eligible for a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License (ILL). An ILL Professional (P) preferred.
● Must possess extensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction and the needs of the efficient and effective operation of a high school program
● Strong organizational skills are required to plan, implement and evaluate the school program and lead the teaching and support staff in achieving the school's goals.
● Supervisory skills include staff assignment, monitoring staff development and evaluating staff effectiveness.
● Highly developed communications skills are required for contact with community members, parents, students, teachers, and district office administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the functions of the job require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Additional Information
Full-Time, 240 Day annual contract position
Salary range: $90,058 - $95,000: Commensurate with qualifications, responsibilities, and relevant experience.
