Job Summary - ***** NIGHT SHIFT 3:30pm- 12:30am

Supports centralized storage technologies and software distribution and deployment. Supports technical data center systems work involving hardware and software systems in both local and wide area network environments. Deploys the release of new infrastructure technologies. Installs, configures, maintains, and tests server hardware, software, and connectivity. Administers servers and supports servers at remote sites, sometimes requiring technician to immediately respond to outages. Data Center - Performs daily backups and server administration. This classification lies above that of Technology Services Technician II and below that of Technology Services Technician IV.

1. Installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, updates, monitors and maintains server hardware, software, and connectivity to ensure proper operation, backups, and security both onsite and remotely.

2. Installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, administers, upgrades, and maintains, various operating and Cloud based systems, software, computer equipment, printers, multi-platform servers, storage systems, networking components, and backup solutions remotely and onsite.

3. Responds to complex trouble calls on the Help Desk and initiates trouble tickets; troubleshoots and resolves complex problems related to technology hardware, software, and connectivity both remotely and onsite; and refers very complicated problems to higher-level technical staff.

4. Monitors, troubleshoots, and resolves communications and data network connectivity issues with application service providers to ensure reliable connectivity from both central and remote locations.

5. Documents, maintains, and implements processes and procedures including, but not limited to, warranty work, preventive maintenance, disaster recovery, security plans, and training/resource material.

Qualifications

Open Requirements: A five (5) year combination of education, training and experience administering, testing, installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining Windows, Apple, and/or Unix/Linux computer systems, servers, networks, storage systems, software, and hardware which includes at least three years of installing, configuring, updating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems, servers, backup/restore systems and maintaining network communication systems.

Education may be substituted for experience for coursework, major, or degree; in Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a related field; as follows: twelve (12) semester hours of course work for one (1) year of experience; an Associate's degree for two (2) years; or a Bachelor's degree for four (4) years of experience.

Promotional Requirements: All permanent employees of the unit who have served for two (2) years in the class of Technology Services Technician II are eligible to take the test for Technology Services Technician III (Data Center).

Licensing/Certification/Registration: A valid Florida driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. May be required to furnish an automobile in good condition for use on School Board business, for which mileage compensation will be paid.

Note: Employees shall receive an annual supplement for up to two (2) additional Technology Certifications after foundation certifications are met. Acceptable Certifications and corresponding supplements will be determined each year or as changes are needed. Supplements shall be effective upon receipt of acceptable proof of the Certification(s). Certification(s) must be maintained while employed in order to retain the supplement(s) tied to same.

Mobile Device: All Technology Division employees will be required to have a working cellular phone that supports voice call and text messaging. Employees will provide their cell phone number to their immediate supervisor to be used during normal working hours or in the event of an after hour's critical issue. Employees of the Technology Division will utilize their cell phone to receive automated priority ticket notifications via text messages, or communications from Technology Services department supervisors or management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong knowledge of Windows server and client platforms
  • Strong knowledge of storage administration in a virtual desktop cloud environment
  • Strong knowledge of storage administration under Linux, UNIX, or Microsoft platforms
  • Strong knowledge of Fiber Channel, Fiber Channel Internet Protocol (FCIP), Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and/or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI)
  • Strong knowledge of server and workstation related software and administration tools
  • Strong knowledge of backup software programs, troubleshooting techniques and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of network hardware, software, and operating systems
  • Strong knowledge of administration and configuration of databases, backup software, and other network application software
  • Strong knowledge of data networks to include Transmission Control Protocol (TCP/IP) networking, routing concepts and security principles
  • Strong knowledge of Internet protocols, access methods, and equipment
  • Strong knowledge of firewalls, network security concepts, and security procedures in a data processing environment
  • Strong knowledge of effective precautionary procedures for protecting and maintaining electronic data security
