The Burlington School District is seeking applications for three anticipated openings for Elementary Principal positions to join the District's dynamic Administrative Team. Burlington School District's Principals serve as instructional leaders, learners, and managers of the school environment guided by the District mission, vision and strategic goals. They must possess the ability to enhance student performance, especially in identifying strategies that close the opportunity and achievement gap while raising the bar for student achievement. Our leaders promote a collaborative, positive and professional climate for student, staff and community to succeed.

Job Requirements
  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
  • Endorsement as a Principal or eligible for Vermont Provisional endorsement
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Administrative Elementary School experience preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of curriculum, instructional leadership, and administrative theory
  • Understands the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of children
  • Promotes internal and external responsibility and accountability for student achievement and well being
  • Formulates and carries out effective plans for internal and external communications to parent/guardian, teacher, and child
  • Encourages an inclusive school culture and promotes shared knowledge and shared responsibility for outcomes
  • Fosters genuine trusting relationships with students, staff, families and community
  • Articulates organizational purpose and priorities to the community and media
  • Demonstrate an understanding of conflict resolution and problem solving strategies
  • Understands the importance of cultural competency and equity in the school environment
  • Experience with School Improvement and Transformation
  • Experience and knowledge of Restorative Practices
  • Student Centered Learning as a focus

Skills
  • Ability to lead, counsel, and supervise a variety of personnel and programs
  • Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective conflict resolution skills (Equity lens necessary)
  • Skilled facilitator and presenter
  • Strong Interpersonal skills

Additional Assets
  • Experience effectively working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
  • Training and/or experience with group facilitation and process management.
  • Knowledge and experience of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) as it relates to a Multi-tiered system.
  • Experience and knowledge of Restorative Practices

Champlain Elementary School:

Champlain's mission is to provide opportunities for students to achieve their personal best, become responsible and productive citizens, and embrace lifelong learning. Striving for academic excellence in our caring, diverse learning community represents our highest ideal. Champlain's faculty, families, and community partners plant and harvest together in our school gardens and cook healthy treats in our classrooms with a mobile kitchen. Our students learn in our forest and outdoor classroom, and especially enjoy our annual fall Harvest Fest. Located in the South End of Burlington at 800 Pine Street, Champlain serves approximately 300 students K-5. Integrated Arts Academy (IAA)

The mission of the IAA is to explore academic knowledge through intentional art experiences. Our diverse community collaborates and celebrates the world through meaningful learning and creative self-expression as we prepare students for success in the 21st Century. At this magnet school, students are learning through the lens of the four art forms: movement, drama, music and visual arts. IAA core partners include the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Burlington City Arts, and St. Michael's College. Sustainability Academy (SA)

The mission of the SA is to educate and empower students to improve the quality of life for all - economically, socially, and environmentally - now and for future generations. At the SA magnet school, students are learning through the lens of sustainability by exploring our diverse society, our local economy, and the environment through hands-on projects. SA's core partner is Shelburne Farms.
