POSITION TITLE: Pre-K Developmental Program Assistants


  • Assistants must meet the highly qualified requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) at the time of hire. Assistants shall achieve highly qualified status if they have a high school diploma, and

    • An Associate Degree or two years of college study. At least 60 semester hours, 12 which must be in English or mathematics, depending on job responsibilities, or

    • A score of at least 455 on the Parapro Test..

  • Dependable and punctual.

  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Ability to take initiative appropriately.

ORIENTATION: July 3, 2019

PROGRAM DATE: July 8 - August 2, 2109

Elementary Program Locations: Abingdon, Barrett, Carlin Springs, Hoffman-Boston, and Taylor


  • Assist individuals or groups of students with classroom activities under teacher guidance and direction.

  • Perform tasks assigned by teacher.

  • Assist with classroom and behavior management plans.

  • Assist students with personal need by:

    • Lifting and/or transferring students.

    • Assisting students with bathroom needs, including changing diapers.

    • Feeding and/or assisting students with eating.


  • One year experience working with students who have disabilities.

Summer school Assistants who are APS employees during the year will be paid their hourly rate as of July 1, 2019 ($14.52 minimum). Non-APS summer school Assistants will be paid $14.52 per hour.
