Whittle School & Studios is an ambitious project to modernize education and build the world's best and most innovative environment for human learning and development. Over the next decade we will be constructing 30 plus Pre-K-12 schools in the world's most vibrant cities, with all of our campuses designed by the renowned architect Renzo Piano. The project is led by education entrepreneur Chris Whittle.

Our first two schools will open in the fall of 2019, located in Shenzhen, China, and Washington D.C., United States.  
About the position - Director of IT, Washington DC Campus  
The Director of Information Technology will be responsible for the end-to-end IT Service Delivery model including direct support for systems, support for Shared IT Service Model for ERP and other WSS systems as required. The Director of IT will be responsible for all enterprise-wide information technology including infrastructure, applications, networks, telecommunications, vendor management, sourcing, project management and security. The Director will participate in overall business planning and innovation and must understand the organization's core technology competency as well as future capabilities.
This role will collaborate with leaders within the organization and manage internal and vendor IT professionals who are accountable for the delivery of services. The Director is responsible for ensuring the achievement of performance targets and strategic initiatives by setting and meeting operational goals that are consistent with the vision of the organization as well as be responsible for the IT Department budgets, both capital and operating, while ensuring effective service delivery for assigned areas of responsibility. This position will report to the Whittle School & Studios Global Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the DC Campus.
Responsibilities
  • Working with the CITO, serve as the lead in management of IT operations.
  • Ensures that project goals are accomplished and aligned with the operational and educational mission of the company.
  • Develops, proposes, implements and maintains effective policies and procedures for use in IT operations and security.
  • Ensures access, security controls and usage of applications and services are in accordance with company policies, applicable laws and best practices.
  • Cultivate a team-oriented, problem-solving culture focused on delivering quality solutions that facilitate business success.
  • Provides ERP oversight and planning.
  • Maintains effective working relationships and acts as the primary point of contact for vendors and solution providers within the operations area.
  • As directed by the CITO/COO, negotiates acquisitions, service level agreements and vendor service agreements.
  • Manage IT security events; provide solutions to audit/security issues and provide data to substantiate security posture.
  • Plans, designs, implements, maintains and supports IT operations and security management.
  • Provide coordination and oversight during planned and unplanned system outages and actively participate in the IT change management process.
  • Participate in information technology planning and annual budget processes.
  • Supervisory responsibilities required
The IT Director holds primary responsibility within WSS DC for IT and IT related issues.  The IT Director will also collaborate with other technology management staff as required across the Global WSS footprint.  
Desired Qualifications include the following:  
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years IT systems and operations management experience
  • 2 - 5 years network management experience and experience with Windows PC and Apple (MacOS and iOS) operating systems and client deployment. 
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science or related field.
  • Ability to gather requirements from multiple stakeholders and translate them into well-defined hardware and software requirements.
  • Experience managing multiple productivity systems.
  • Experience managing integration of disparate systems and platforms (resulting from acquisitions or other consolidation activity).
  • Strong personal skills to communicate directly with end users in sometimes tense situations. 
  • Fluent in written and verbal English.
  • Strong initiative, integrity and good judgment.
  • Hands on approach with an attention to detail.
  • An ability to work on a lean team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork, excellent interpersonal and communications skills are a must.
