Description
This position is regular contract.
Purpose: The Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, works directly with classroom teachers and teams to support engagement through equitable practices. The Instructional Coach facilitates individual and group professional learning to expand and refine teacher understanding about and actionable practices for culturally and linguistically responsive instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach provides personalized, individual and team support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers and teacher teams. The Instructional Coach for Equitable Practices engages directly and indirectly in the Renewal Design process with teachers and teams, facilitated by directors from the Educational Services team.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; Master's degree preferred
2. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
3. Current Wisconsin teaching license
4. Coaching and/or teacher leadership experience
5. Deep knowledge of and experience in:
a) Culturally and Linguistically Responsive instructional & lesson design practices
b) Knowledge of the Readers and Writers Workshop, preferred
c) Assessment-driven instruction (and data-based decisions)
d) Professional development for adult educators
e) Blended learning and/or other forms of personalized learning
f) Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness model, setting and achieving instructional goals
g) Lesson/Unit planning using backwards design and effective assessment development
6. Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for teachers and administrators; demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles
7. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
8. Ability to communicate in a professional manner using oral, written, and listening skills
9. Strong organizational skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
10. Ability to function as a collaborative member of a team
11. Demonstrated interest and engagement in self-reflection and professional learning
Essential Functions:
1) Support the vision and mission of the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.
2) Facilitate the intellectual and professional growth of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement.
3) Establish and maintain positive collegial relationships.
4) Teach and model culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices.
5) Respond to change productively and manage multiple assigned tasks.
6) Provide individualized and team, classroom-based coaching to support participating teachers in effective implementation of culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices.
General Responsibilities:
1. Assume educator leadership positions
2.Attend and participate in required professional development for instructional coaches
3. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed
4. Provide support to teachers for sharing and analyzing their student assessment data
5. Provide support for teachers with Educator Effectiveness, related to goal setting and planning
6. Assist teachers with instructional decisions based on student assets, identity development, and student assessment data
7. Assist teachers in the development of culturally and linguistically responsive lesson design
8. Provide support for classroom engagement strategies
9. Assist teachers in creating materials aligned with the district curriculum and adopted standards
10. Provide assistance with blended learning design models
11. Model effective instruction as needed
12. Encourage ongoing professional growth for colleagues
13. Manage schedule flexibly to meet teacher schedules and learning needs
14. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals
15. Assist with the development of district curriculum, instructional pedagogy, and assessments
16. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers
17. Possess an understanding of when to communicate directly with administrators regarding issues of safety and/or ethics
18. Perform duties as assigned by the Principal and the Director of Secondary Education.
19. Attend PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings, as needed or appropriate
20. Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including labsite observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions
21. Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Coaches, Mentors, and Educational Specialists
