JOB TITLE : Supervisor, Mathematics - Elementary

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, Mathematics - Elementary

DEFINITION : Provides leadership in the design, development, and implementation of the mathematics curriculum for Elementary schools, grades PreK-5. Coordinates professional development that supports the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards, curriculum content, and pedagogy for elementary mathematics teachers. Collaborates in the development of professional learning for administrators and S.T.A.T. Supports Blueprint 2.0 and the BCPS Master Plan . Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Ensures that the Elementary mathematics program addresses and supports the system-wide goals and priorities identified in the Blueprint 2.0 and the Master Plan . Revises curriculum, instructional techniques, and support to schools to facilitate meeting those goals.
  • Provides leadership in the design and development of the mathematics curriculum for gradesPreK-5 that reflects best practices, state-of-the-art knowledge of lesson and unit planning, 21 st Century learning skills, student learning styles, diverse instructional and assessment strategies, critical thinking, brain research, and multiple intelligences.
  • Supervises and facilitates the service provided by Resource Teachers to elementary school administrators, school leadership teams, and teachers. Evaluates and supports the performance and professional growth and development of personnel within elementary mathematics.
  • Coordinates system-wide professional development that includes, but not limited to, DreamBox, New Teacher Academy, Grade Changer Academy, and Teacher Leader Corp.
  • Design and support of curriculum development and programs to include implementation, licensing, data monitoring and reporting, professional learning. Oversees budget tracking and maintenance fiscal impact.
  • Supports the development of a balanced assessment program which includes embedded, ongoing and formative assessments, and summative assessments, for elementary mathematics that are integrated and aligned to the mathematics curriculum, College and Career-Ready Standards and other related standards.
  • Assists in the identification and recommendation of prevention, intervention, and enrichment opportunities for all elementary students in mathematics.
  • Identifies mathematics curriculum for elementary summer school programs.
  • Supports the development of a list of approved textbooks, instructional materials, digital resources, software and technologies.
  • Provides daily, consistent, ongoing support to elementary schools to guide the implementation of the mathematics curriculum.
  • Supports opportunities for teacher to obtain and maintain highly qualified status in elementary mathematics.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with other curricular offices to facilitate a cohesive mathematics program, pre-kindergarten to grade 5.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with MSDE, community agencies, institutions of higher learning and other leaders in elementary mathematics that benefit schools and support system priorities.
  • Supports the development of appropriate BCPS policies and procedures for elementary mathematics.
  • Provides parents, guardians, and community stakeholder groups with information and strategies that can be implemented with children to enhance student learning.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with the Department of Professional Development for the delivery of professional learning sessions for the Office of Mathematics PreK-5.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience :
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a field related to the assignment, with at least fifteen additional hours of approved graduate and/or in-service credit plus five years of teaching experience in mathematics education in a public educational setting.
  • Leadership/management experience in the field of elementary mathematics education preferred.


Licenses and Certificates :
  • Possession of or eligibility for Maryland Advanced Professional certificate with an Administrator I endorsement.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
  • Demonstration of content knowledge and understanding of Elementary instructional practices in mathematics.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstration of strong leadership, management, and human relations skills.
  • Possession of technology competency (e.g., database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications).
  • Skill and experience in data analysis and application.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Employees may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, and travel.

SALARY: Grade 10 on the BCPS CASE 12-month pay scale $90,400 - $131,696.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
