QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure in Special Education.

  • Knowledge of the academic, social and emotional needs of Pre-K students with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of best practices and experience teaching Pre-K students with disabilities.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
ORIENTATION: July 3, 2019


July 8 - August 2, 2019

Elementary Program Locations: Abingdon, Barrett, Carlin Springs, Hoffman-Boston, and/or Taylor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize and implement appropriate instruction in the areas of motor skills, language and self help skills for Pre-K students with disabilities.

  • Provide accommodations and modifications for students as needed.

  • Collaborate with regular school staff, student services staff and families.

  • Plan and organize activities to be carried out by an assistant.

  • Instruct and assist with physical and personal needs of students with various disabilities which may include:


    • Providing physical assistance to students for mobility.

    • Lifting and/or transferring students.

    • Assisting students with bathroom needs, including changing diapers.

    • Feeding and/or assisting student with eating.



EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience teaching Pre-K students with disabilities.

SALARY:
Summer School teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the Non-VRS equivalant rate.Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan.Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $32.50 per hour.
