Job Description
POSITION: Supervisor of Custodians (Evening)

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Operations

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Operations and/or Assistant Facilities Manager (Manager of Custodians) or Assistant Facilities Manager (Manager of Maintenance).

POSITION SUMMARY: The Supervisor of Custodians oversees and manages the operations of all Senior and Junior Custodians during the evening shifts. The Supervisor of Custodians is also responsible for the daily operation of each school, meeting district quality standards and positive customer relations with the key focus on outstanding customer relations. This position ensures 100% compliance with all district guidelines, policies and procedures.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:
• Minimum of a High School Diploma. Associates Degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience as Custodian in a public school setting
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a Supervisory role
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently without daily supervision.
• Experience with cleaning public schools using sustainable "green" cleaning methods
• Confidentiality and discretion in customer dealings.
• Valid driver's license in good standing, ability to pass extensive background and drug check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Thorough knowledge of methods used in the cleaning of buildings.
• Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, equipment and supplies used in large scale custodial activities.
• Good computer skills (must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel)
• Thorough knowledge of the qualities, adaptabilities and uses of common tools, equipment and materials used in cleaning activities.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
• Considerable knowledge of employee policies and procedures.
• Ability to train staff on the use of tools and equipment of the custodial service.
• Ability to train staff on maintaining cleaning equipment and machinery.
• Ability to develop work schedules making the most efficient use of personnel.
• Ability to train and supervise a large group of employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plans and schedules all custodial work, ensures requests are completed in a timely manner.
• Makes rounds to check for crew coverage of designated work areas, assigns needed coverage, gives special cleaning instructions and/or assignments, and ascertains compliance with directives.
• Monitors daily custodial activities, including cleaning and event set-up and take-down
• Monitors custodial work orders daily, including feedback from work order requestors
• Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
• Conducts inspections and investigates customer complaints of the building to check for cleanliness and advises subordinates of found conditions and methods of correction.
• Determines materials, supplies and equipment needs; requisitions cleaning supplies and materials.
• Inspects equipment for cleanliness and repair and personally makes minor repairs.
• Trains subordinate supervisors in job skills, proper cleaning methods, and use of equipment, safety practices and fire prevention and in work regulations.
• Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
• Directs the overall management of the Custodial Evening Staff during snow, emergencies and security events.
• Assists in managing the Districts recycle program and suggest improvements where possible.
• Maintains records, prepares reports and composes correspondence relative to the work.
• Follows all District safety regulations.
• Trains, motivates and directs staff on district goals, policy and procedures, customer relations, and account objectives.
• Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing customer complaints and conflict resolution with employees and customers.
• Verifies and approves weekly labor hours.
• Evaluates operational goals to ensure compliance with the districts requirements.
• Ensures and complies with all safety requirements.
• Delegates work assignments; matches the responsibilities to the person; gives authority to work independently; sets expectations and monitors delegated activities provides regular performance feedback; develops subordinates skills, and encourages growth.
• Able to perform all duties expected of employees and other duties as required by manager or according to site demand.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Must be able to perform repetitive motions and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Hours are 3:00 PM-11:00 PM
