The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting with operating the instructional program and providing educational leadership for the staff, students and community. Brief Description:

This is an 11 month ASASP Unit II Grade 1-3 Position.

Elementary School Grade 1: $83,494 - $115,575

Middle School Grade 2: $85,998 - $119,041

High School Grade 3: $88,579 - $122,614

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Assisting the principal in leading and implementing a cohesive educational program for assigned students in accordance with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders:

  • o Develop, advocate, and enact a shared mission, vision, and core values of high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student;

    o Act ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Strive for equity of educational opportunities and culturally responsive practices to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Develop and support intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Cultivate an inclusive, caring, and supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student;

    o Develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Foster a professional community of teachers and other professional staff to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Engage families and the community in meaningful, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student's academic success and well-being;

    o Manage school operations and resources to promote each student's academic success and well-being; and

    o Act as an agent of continuous improvement to promote each student's academic success and well-being.
  • Assisting in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional programs;
  • Participating in a variety of student activities; collaborating with special services personnel, assisting in the maintenance of standards concerning students' discipline, health, safety and general welfare;
  • Assisting in a variety of administrative responsibilities, including student transportation, maintenance of buildings and facilities, cafeteria operations, and after-hours use of facilities;
  • Assuming responsibility for the operation of the school in the absence of the principal;
  • Working under the general supervision of and supporting the school principal; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's degree from an accredited college or university required. An emphasis in supervision, educational administration, or elementary/secondary school curriculum is preferred. Three years teaching experience required.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrator I Certification required. Must complete Framework for Teaching (FfT) certification within six months of assuming the role.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Evaluates and supervises school staff in the absence of the Principal.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Active participation in the mandatory two-year Assistant Principal Induction Program (APIP) consisting of the following:
  • Mandatory monthly full-day training program aligned to the PSEL Standards;
  • Successful completion of all required Assistant Principal Induction Program activities, including but not limited to:

  • o Written assignments

    o Electronic Portfolio

    o Reflection Journals

    o Electronic Weekly Log
  • Attendance at Leadership Development Team Meetings; and
  • Successful completion of the Assistant Principal Induction Program mid-year and end of year professional growth meetings
  • Details for the aforementioned Assistant Principal Induction Program (APIP) requirements will be provided for candidates who are appointed Assistant Principal.

    Additional Details:

    Direct Deposit is expected as a condition of new hire employment.
