The Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction provides instructional program leadership, focus and direction in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment.  The role will assure that ALS programs, instructional methods and curriculum are evidence based, aligned with state standards, and reflect the school district, and customer’s preferences on scope and sequence.  The role holds specific responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of the instructional program including closing the achievement gap, language acquisition, program improvement, and implementing programs that support district and state accountability.  In addition, the role will monitor curriculum delivery to assure that it is delivered by trained instructional staff, and is consistent with the ALS Instructional Model and aligned to district and state accountability models.

Job Requirements and Prerequisites:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of ALS Vision, Mission, Instructional and School Operations Model.  Behavioral competencies consistent with viewing regional and school staff as internal customers.
  • Master’s degree in a field directly related to education from an accredited college or university.
  • Degree or certification in Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience plus a valid teaching license or certificate required.
  • Minimum 3 years training experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing educational programs and effectively incorporating standards into classroom curricula.
  • Ability to deliver effective, professional presentations.
  • Experience in the design, development, delivery and assessment of curricula.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and embrace the spirit of teamwork.
  • Knowledge of current instructional programs, curriculum, and measurement and evaluation strategies.
  • Broad background and knowledge in the areas of instructional improvement, school/local district/District administration/organization, and secondary-level curriculum development.
  • An understanding of issues and challenges confronting public school district constituents and stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide leadership to ALS personnel at all levels.
  • Initiative and innovative ability in developing programs in education.
  • Capacity to successfully coordinate the efforts of specialized personnel in various academic disciplines.
  • Ability to absorb, analyze, organize, and project information and ideas.
  • Familiarity with research, major trends, methods, and publications in the field of secondary education.
  • Ability to make formal, public presentations.
  • Ability to observe, evaluate, and utilize subordinates effectively.
  • Ability to travel to other sites/locations.
  • Appropriate manner including poise, tact, good judgment, and ability to work effectively with ALS personnel, community representatives, parents, and students.
  • Mastery of MS Office, including Excel, and Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn proprietary software.
