JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS

JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES: All School Administrators and Technology Staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New York State SDL certification along with an appropriate Master’s Degree (Doctorate preferred)
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the area of Instructional Leadership at either the building and/or district level with a far reaching professional learning network
  • Extensive experience in organizing and facilitating differentiated professional development opportunities based on district needs
  • Curriculum specialist with knowledge of K-12 New York State standards and balanced literacy
  • Minimum five (5) years teaching experience working collaboratively with students, colleagues and families
  • Strong experience in data management (e.g. testing and scoring)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with key stakeholders around a shared and dynamic vision for learning and instruction that is both inclusive and diverse

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This district level administrative position works collaboratively with building and teaching leadership and the broader instructional staff to ensure that our approach to learning and instruction is research data based, current and relevant to supporting the development of life-ready individuals
  • Supervise certified staff Performance Development and the teacher Mentoring program
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to study and, as appropriate, recommend adoption of new instructional methods, materials, and/or programs using the most current technology for learning and testing
  • Ability to combine curriculum across subject areas and integrate into instruction (e.g. Life Skills such as time and money management, housing, etc.)
  • Analyze, interpret and present assessment data related to student performance and modify curriculum as needed
  • Research, recommend and implement data management solutions for testing in conjunction with BOCES and NYSED
  • Advocate for the new education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and assure teachers are in compliance with all new initiatives including the new history and science standards
  • Collaborate with Professional Development resources such as Tri-State and the Edith Winthrop Teachers Center
  • Work collaboratively with the Special Education Director and Department to support learning opportunities for all students regardless of readiness levels
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop and enact a district-wide RTI Plan that incorporates a Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Assist in the development and progression of both annual goals and long range strategic planning, including staff projections based on district’s needs assessment
  • Oversee and implement the district’s Technology plan and supervise Technology staff, assuring efficient service delivery
  • Chairperson for Technology Committee
  • Perform teacher observations
  • In conjunction with teacher committees, organize Superintendent Conference Days
  • Coordinate grants and prepare the budget for learning and instruction work
  • Perform the duties of the Superintendent in his/her absence and acts as a resource and partner to the Superintendent at all times
  • Participate in Board of Education meetings as well as other district level functions as needed

EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month position starting July 1, 2019

SALARY: Salary is highly competitive, commensurate with experience

EVALUATION: Evaluated by Superintendent of Schools based on established goals
