Assists the teacher or principal by helping students to achieve the standards and objectives of excellence as set by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Works cooperatively with the principal and teacher in providing a classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs and available resource materials.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
  • Assists in the instruction of individual students or groups of students in all curricular areas as directed by the teacher.
  • Plans and works with teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts based on the understanding of individual students-their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment and materials for instructional purposes.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Interacts positively with students, parents, and colleagues and facilitates positive interactions among students.
  • Collaborates and shares ideas and strategies with other team members.
  • Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Participates in in-service training programs for professional growth.
  • Assists with school routines and transitions.
  • Assists in checking materials, supervising and assessing students as directed by the teacher.
  • Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, ordering materials, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Completion of an Associate's Degree or two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours with a C or higher, or completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program, or completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan. College transcripts or copy of college diploma must be uploaded to the attachment page on your on line application.

This is a 9 month end of year position for 37.5 hours per week. This position will only work when students are in session.
