Wilmington Public Schools seeks an outstanding applicant for the position of Principal at the Woburn Street Elementary School, serving approximately 422 students in grades 1-3.  The district seeks an experienced administrator with demonstrated success as an elementary school leader.  The successful candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years as an elementary school principal or assistant principal or similar leadership experience.  A Master’s degree or higher in educational leadership is preferred.  

Other qualifications include: Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary license as an elementary school principal.

Woburn Street Elementary at a Glance:  The Woburn Street School is a caring community consisting of 22 classrooms serving students in first, second and third grade.  The community consists of highly qualified teachers and support staff who provide a wide range of special education and support services. The community strives to implement an inclusionary model of instruction designed to support all students regardless of any academic, behavioral or linguistic challenges they may have.  In addition, the Woburn Street School community believes in building strong partnerships with families. 

About the District:  The Wilmington Public School District provides services to students in PreK-12th grade, spanning eight (8) school buildings.  The District’s Leadership Team consists of:  the Superintendent of Schools; Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Staff Development; Assistant Superintendent of Administration & Finance; Director of Student Support Services; Director of Human Resources; eight (8) Principals/Directors; and a Coordinator of Behavioral Health & Social Emotional Support. The leadership of the district is also supported by an English Language Learning Coordinator.  The school district enjoys tremendous support from a seven-member School Committee, parents and guardians in the town, the Town Manager, Selectman and Finance Committees. Additionally, we work very closely and collaboratively with the police and fire, public facilities, library services and the recreation department. The district also enjoy close partnerships with the Wilmington Education Foundation (WEF) as well as the Wilmington School-Business Partnerships association.

About Wilmington, Massachusetts:  Wilmington is situated just outside of Boston and was incorporated in 1730. The town has an open town meeting structure governed by a board of selectman and a town manager.  It is located within Middlesex County and its close proximity to the Greater Boston area allows for a strong mix of business-professionals who work in the area, and have selected the town to raise their families due to the quality of the schools and the vibrancy of the community. Wilmington enjoys numerous public recreational spaces, has its own lake and takes great pride in a wonderful Town Common where the July 4th celebrations bring residents together every year. Strong programming with the public library, as well as the recreation department, help to make Wilmington a great place to live and raise a family.

The selected candidate is expected to begin on July 1, 2019, as negotiated with the Superintendent of Schools.

All resumes received will be carefully screened, and selected candidates will participate in a thorough interview process. Applicants selected will be interviewed in March 2019 by a search committee consisting of a cross-section of stakeholders that will include staff, parents/guardians and school and district leaders. Finalists will spend the day in the district learning about the Woburn Street Elementary School, where they will meet with the Superintendent, district and building leaders, and parents/guardians. The selection process will also include a site-visit to the finalists’ school and district.
