JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB GOAL:
To provide leadership, direction, and advocacy for the academic programs and the performance of Students of the District. Responsibilities include developing and monitoring accountability measures providing guidance and support for accomplishment of teaching and learning initiatives and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in related field.
  2. Certification in Education leadership, Administration and Supervision, School Principal or Professional School Principal.
  3. Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in education to include no less than five (5) years administrative experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
Knowledge of current trends, research, and accountability measures processes and best practices in curriculum and instruction.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to read, interpret and present complex data and accountability results in an understandable manner to school personnel and the public. Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures related to assigned responsibilities.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees, and the general public.  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead, provide direction and oversight for planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all academic standards, programs, and activities for the District.
  2. Support the Deputy Superintendent for Operations in the development and execution of the Strategic Operations and Business Plan that includes the vision, values and strategic priorities for the organization.
  3. Manage, implement and evaluate organizational development strategies that facilitate the alignment and integration of people, processes and technology; strategy and vision; leadership and staff; and system-wide goals and culture.
  4. Encourage strong collaboration among the district’s instructional departments and develop an efficient service culture and climate.
  5. Make school site visits to determine quality of instructional initiatives and to support personnel.
  6. Lead, monitor and ensure compliance with instructional/academic statutory duties, regulation and legislation such as: Common Core, Digital Curriculum, Computer Based Testing, Value Added and PARCC.
  7. Initiate the objectives and strategies consistent with School Board goals and policies and administrative direction of the Superintendent.
  8. Provide leadership, direction and advocacy for fostering highest student performance.
  9. Provide general oversight for all academic programs of the school district and appropriate monitoring of all school sites.
  10. Develop guidelines or processes for implementation of District policies and procedures.
  11. Participate as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Team
  12. Develop, recommend, supervise, and administer the budget for this division.
  13. Interpret programs, philosophy, and policies of the District to staff, parents, and the community.
  14. Provide leadership in crisis management and problem solving in day-to-day issues of the division.
  15. Develop Board Agenda items.
  16. Interpret state statutes for District impact and policy/procedure changes.
  17. Develop cooperative working relationships with Superintendent, Board Members and other division personnel.
  18. Prepare contracts and grants as appropriate and necessary.
  19. Investigate complaints.
  20. Develop materials for and participate in Board workshops and presentations.
  21. Keep up-to-date on current trends and practices related to curriculum, assessment and instruction.
  22. Provide assistance to schools on data analysis as it relates to the school accountability process.
  23. Monitor and communicate trend, benchmark and comparison data in the areas of curriculum assessment.
  24. Provide support for development of Schools Public Accountability Report (SPAR) report as required.
  25. Interact with parents, outside agencies, business and community to enhance understanding of District initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance.
  26. Work closely with District and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes.
  27. Promote and support professional growth for self and others.
  28. Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment action.
  29. Provide direct input to the Superintendent regarding the evaluation of the elementary, middle school and high school Executive Directors.
  30. Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain appropriate records.
  31. Work with the Executive Directors to coordinate the transfer or assignment of personnel and programs between/among schools and assigned departments.
  32. Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the District.
  33. Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment, and facilitate task accomplishment.
  34. Facilitate problem solving by individuals and groups.
  35. Serve as the Superintendent’s designee or representative for civic and professional association responsibilities and activities in the local community, the state and at national level as requested by the Superintendent.
  36. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:     
Light Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

EVALUATION:                  
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
