BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledgeable in all areas of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for adults. Must possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with program participants and staff. Must have had three years of successful experience in Adult Education.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and must have experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, student supplies or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk; and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear the spoken word at a normal volume and at 20 feet with back turned. The employee must be able to drive a car both long and short distances. The employee must be able to effectively present information to groups of people both in and out of the School Division. This will require standing for long periods of time. It is expected that the employee will transport and handle cases of forms, staff development materials, booklets, and audio-visual equipment. This position demands a high level of performance and the employee must be able to work long days, meet deadlines, learn new procedures rapidly, and adjust to changes in procedure. Data entry and looking at computer screens will be a major component of the responsibilities of this position.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

The basic function of this position is to manage ESOL. The Lead is responsible for the staffing, training, and scheduling of program activities including registrations, classes, testing, staff meetings, and maintaining confidentiality. The Lead is also responsible for coordinating community activities/outreach related to this program.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education.

Provide guidance/counseling for adult candidates seeking English language leaming.

Provide effective public relations and communications.

Register adult candidates for the appropriate Adult Education program.

Administer an ESOL assessment approved by the Office of Adult Education and Literacy, Virginia

Department of Education.

Attend state and national meetings as assigned.

Coordinate activities for Adult Education ESOL functions.

Maintain security of ESOL testing materials and ESOL records according to state guidelines.

Complete paperwork related to the administration and recordkeeping of ESOL.

Provide input into the Adult Education budget.

Research and assist in the writing of multiple grant applications to maintain and enhance program initiatives.
