About This Role: IDEA Dunn Academy teachers will have a unique opportunity to be a founding member of our newest school model. Each teacher will have one content specialty and teach across two grade levels. For this position, the Social Studies teacher will teach Social Studies/Humanities curriculum but serve both 2nd and 3rd grade students. In addition to the content curriculum, this teacher with support students literacy by implementing Direct Instruction.

Role Mission: ID EA Academy teachers are responsible for ensuring that every IDEA student masters the academic and social skills necessary to succeed in college, while also embodying IDEA's values daily.

IDEA Academy teachers instruct students in grades 2nd - 5th. All IDEA Academy teachers are responsible for ensuring that every IDEA student masters the academic and social skills necessary to succeed in college, while also embodying IDEA's values daily. In addition, IDEA Academy teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and invest students and families in accomplishing them; create a powerful learning environment; plan and deliver purposeful, rigorous instruction; assess for mastery and track student progress toward goals; analyze data to intervene and adjust instruction; and seek excellence as an educator and an IDEA team member.

Responsibilities:
  • Able to support two grade levels 4th & 5th Grade students
  • Teach two subjects: Social Studies & Science
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
  • Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student's progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly
  • Communicate students' progress with student and family on a weekly basis
  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students' character and sense of community in the classroom
  • Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students' needs
  • Participate in weekly professional development, grade-level meetings and activities, and school wide meetings and functions
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week

A Typical Day at IDEA:

IDEA teachers and co-teachers are on duty for the extended school day of 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, however IDEA teachers and co-teachers typically arrive at 7:00 am and leave at 5:00 pm according to their duty, tutoring, and meeting schedules. IDEA teachers and co-teachers typically teach 4 periods a day (this looks different for elective and hybrid teachers). Certain Saturday school sessions throughout the school year are also attended by IDEA teachers and co-teachers. Though they face demanding schedules, all IDEA teachers and co-teachers are strongly supported by dedicated leadership and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution; State certification preferred
  • Experience in a classroom setting, preferably experience working with low-income students
  • Proven track record of success in a professional setting
  • Belief in and alignment with IDEA's mission and values is non- negotiable

Selection Process: After submitting your online application, IDEA will review your materials. Candidates with a track record of success who pass the initial application screening will be invited to a video interview. Candidates who are successful with the video interview will be invited to an in-person interview and sample teaching session with the principal and a hiring committee of the school at which they are under consideration. Compensation: Salaries for this role typically fall between $46,500 for 0 years of experience and $56,000 for 17 years of experience. This role is also eligible for various stipend opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway Program.
