Essential Functions and Objectives:

-The Middle School Teacher teaches specific grade level subject matter to a diverse middle school student population, following DPS standards-based curriculum. Helps all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding. Monitors, supervises, coordinates and enforces rule of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy. Observes, evaluates, reports and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:

Must possess a current Colorado Department of Education Teachers License with appropriate endorsement.

-Provides instruction in Science following DPS standards-based curriculum.

DGS is an ECE-8 Innovation School and part of the first Innovation Zone in Denver Public Schools.

The school serves the diverse southeast Denver neighborhood and has students representing 30 different countries. As an Innovation school, DGS has worked to build our own curriculum, implement 1/2 day Friday professional development and use a collaborative leadership model where every teacher receives coaching and feedback on a regular basis.

DGS instructs all of the common core standards, and devotes significant time for students to learn these standards during interdisciplinary project-based learning units. These units are also planned with the intention of preparing students to be problem solvers for a more sustainable future.

Description: Middle School Science Teacher Our middle school science teacher's primary responsibility will be to instruct two 8th grade classes science each day. Additionally, our science teacher will teach one hour of 6th grade science and one hour of 7th grade science Monday-Thursday.

Within this model, we expect students to develop analysis skills consistent with scientific thinking and the writing and oral expressions skills necessary to explain their findings. We have opted into Amplify Science to provide strong curricular resources, but we have complete trust in our teachers modifying and developing content as they see fit.

Our current schedule has 2:15 of planning Monday-Thursday and 4 hours on Friday. In a school that is passionate about sustainability and relevant learning, science is a critical backbone for how we think.

We aspire to have students wonder about the world they live in and have the skills to follow this curiosity.

Qualifications: Current Colorado Department of Education Teachers License with endorsement in Science or Qualify for Alternative Licensure (take Praxis test).
