Executive Director, PreK-5 Learning and Teaching Services

Summary: The Executive Director of PreK-5 Learning and Teaching is responsible for supporting PreK-5 schools and teachers by providing assistance on reaching district goals for student achievement. Building agility and successful use of educators in the use of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study is a key goal. Identifying trends in student achievement and implementing strategies to improve performance is another essential practice for the Executive Director. The Executive Director of PreK-5 Learning and Teaching supports teachers, school and district leaders and staff to focus on improving student learning.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Provides expertise and support services to principals and teachers to help increase student learning, success and achievement.
  • Collaborates with the supervisor and staff to provide best practices in improving classroom instruction (teacher knowledge and skill, the role that students play in the learning process and curriculum).
  • Confers with key stakeholders in the development of training plans focused on higher student achievement.
  • Ensures curricular and instructional continuity from Pre-K grade to Kindergarten
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of Grades 6-12 to ensure curricular and instructional continuity from 5 th grade to 6 th grade.
  • Assists schools with determining the effectiveness of PreK-5 instruction and developing strategies to improve achievement.
  • Assists in developing school improvement plans.
  • Works with key stakeholders in the development of professional learning plans focused on higher student achievement.
  • Consults with principals and assists with instructional needs analysis.
  • Provides benchmarks toward attainment of learning goals and implementation of North Carolina State Standards.
  • Directs multiple PreK-5 areas such as literacy, curriculum development, ASEP, Pre-K and Extended Day.
  • Serves as a supporting and participating member of Professional Learning Communities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Minumum:
  • Master's Degree in an education field
  • 3 years successful teaching experience and 3 years of experience as a principal or consummate experience as an

    educational leader
  • Demonstrated ability to lead all primary levels of school staff professionals to achieve educational goals
  • Innate ability to identify and trouble shoot sensitive and critical issues
  • Adaptability to changing strategies; delegating key initiatives to appropriate staff

Desirable:
  • Doctorate in an education field
  • 5 years successful teaching experience and 5 years of experience as a principal


Licensing / Certification Requirements: Certificate in teaching and in educational leadership or administration and supervision. NC principal or superintendent license preferred.

  • Knowledge of educational theory, research-based best practices, North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Strategic Plan 2018.
  • Knowledge of district organization, operations, policies and objectives.
  • Knowledge of the principles of organization, administration and personnel management.
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation to increase the productivity and performance in the areas of logistics, analysis, reporting, training, communication, customer service and content expertise.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities frequently involving driving automotive equipment.
