Job Description
Job Goal:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for day to day management of the classroom and provision of instruction, including development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, assessment, and curriculum design. The teacher is also responsible for the supervision of classroom staff and ongoing parent contact.

Performance and Responsibilities:
1. Design and carryout developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as warranted by IEP goals/MA curriculum framework
2. Guide classroom staff in implementing goals of children
3. Provide direct individual and/or group instruction
4 Provide trans-disciplinary programming through consultation with professional and therapeutic staff
5. Conduct thorough educational evaluations necessary for quarterly progress reports, annual assessment and re-evaluations
6. When scheduled, prepare MCAS alternate assessment on students assigned
7. Provide assistance in feeding, toileting, dressing skills and ADLs
8. Implement social skills training program
9. Utilize various techniques to provide sensory diets for students
10. Initiate and support the use of assistive technology to provide access
11. Daily maintenance of supplies, equipment, and departmental space
12. Organize daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and uses indirect time appropriately
13. Consult with staff in other discipline areas to improve programming
14. Facilitate ongoing parent contact and encourage family involvement
15. Develop appropriate individual IEP consistent with training in a timely way

Job Requirements
Qualifications:

1. Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
2. Certification as a Special Education teacher
3. Knowledge in the area of developmental disabilities
4. Familiar with special education assessment tools
5. Knowledge of curriculum design and development
6. Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS alternative assessments
7. Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the provision of Special Education and the Special Education process

This position follows the UNIT A contract.
