Pittsburgh Public Schools is looking to fill the Executive Director, Program for Students with Exceptionalities--the most senior level Special Education administrator in the District--for the start of the 2019-20 school year (July 1, 2019). Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, the Executive Director, Program for Students with Exceptionalities is responsible for supervision and implementation of special education programs throughout the district.

Salary:
Executive Director Salary Schedule (Base Salary starting at $125, 415 annually)

Qualifications:
PDE-issued Supervisor of Special Education or Principal K-12 certification required; Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility preferred

Experience in supervisory capacity; ten + years preferred.

Prior successful staff and curriculum development experience preferred.

Knowledge of Pennsylvania standards, initiatives and assessments.

Knowledge of special education programs.

Excellent presentation and writing skills.

Extensive knowledge of content-based pedagogy, assessment and technology.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Implement special education programs throughout the district.
2. Direct the coordination of the Penn Data System for special education audits.
3. Develop the Annual Special Education Plan as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
4. Supervise the development of special education staff development for Central Office, Principals, Teachers, and Paraprofessionals.
5. Direct the implementation of the Extended School Year program for students with exceptionalities as required under federal court order.
6. Collaborate with the Office of Finance for the development and implementation of special education budget.
7. Monitor federal and state compliance issues and prepare program for PDE Audits.
8. Establish partnerships with outside agencies.
9. Manage and oversee all special education contracts.
10. Possess knowledge of currency with research in special education.
11. Work collaboratively with Central Office Staff, Program Officers, Executive Directors, and other school administrative staff in the development of programs for student achievement.
12. Initiate and write grants/proposals to solicit program funding.
13. Supervise special education staff.
14. Attend District meetings and represent the School District with outside agencies.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Information:
Physical Demands: This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.

2. Frequently required to work at fast pace
3. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
5. Frequent travel; on a daily basis to and from various school sites, offices and departments; non-local travel typically required on monthly basis.
