The Harlem Peacemaker program supports elementary and middle schools, offering a school success program during the school day and providing afterschool programs as well as summer programming. All of the programs are operated under the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene School Aged Childcare (SACC) as well as one DYCD location. The programs provide young people and their families with the support and services that enable them to have a vision of a productive future.

We are currently seeking a Middle School Coordinator to supervise Program Aides, provide training and professional development, and design and implement activities, events, and curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for positive youth development of the participants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and monitor the use of documents meant to track the academic and social progress of every child in the program
  • Conduct outreach to achieve and maintain the required number of students for the program
  • Collaborate with the other site coordinators
  • Attend agency-wide meetings and share best practices with the program
  • Work closely with the Education Coordinator to develop lesson plans and curriculums
  • Keep inventory of the supplies necessary for their component
  • Identify sites, events, businesses and opportunities meant to enhance the experience of the middle school students, particularly those that are in keeping with the goals set forth for the program and that prepare the students for high school
  • Track and achieve goals set for the program
  • Provide leadership and professional development, and training to staff
  • Design and implement creative programming that speak to the needs of the program participants
  • Host parent, staff, and student meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3+ years working in youth development
  • Must have strong leadership, organizational and time management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Must be flexible and open minded
