This is a classified position paid on Range 11 of the Educational Support Personnel Salary Schedule (starting pay range is $16.14/hr - $18.70/hr depending on experience).

The Athletic Trainer positon requires a flexible schedule to accommodate athletic practices and games. It is a .6 FTE position (average of 24 work hours per week).

SUMMARY
Responsible for coordinating and delivering athletic training services to student athletes by providing evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games, attending all varsity football games and home athletic events, applying protective or injury prevention devices, designing and supervising rehabilitation programs, maintaining accurate records of injuries and treatments, communicating with parents regarding athlete injuries, supervising and instructing student athletic trainers, maintaining medical kits for each in-season athletic team, working with physicians to determine limitations of athletes, working with coaches to establish training and conditioning programs, assisting in the selection of protective athletic equipment, maintaining accurate inventory of training room equipment and supplies and assisting the Athletic Director in preparing training supply requests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
D 20% Coordinate and deliver athletic training services to student athletes by providing evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games and by providing prepractice/game taping and preparation.

D 15% Attend all varsity football games and home athletic events. Remain available during all sports practices as needed.

D 10% Apply protective or injury prevention devices, such as taping, bandaging or bracing.

D 5% Design and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.

D 5% Maintain accurate records of athletic injuries, treatments, health and accident report forms.

D 5% Supervise the maintenance and operation of training room and training room equipment.

D 5% Communicate with parents with respect to injuries to his/her student athlete, following HIPAA guidelines.

D 3% Supervise and instruct student athletic trainers in care and prevention of injuries.

D 2% Maintain medical kits for each in-season athletic team.

W 5% Work in conjunction with a physician, when necessary, and coaches to determine limitations of an athlete.

M 5% Administer First Aid/emergency care to injured athletes. Establish emergency procedures for training room and athletic facility and coordinate with emergency medical services.

A 5% Work in conjunction with coaches in establishing a program of training and conditioning for athletes.

A 5% Work cooperatively with coaches and Athletic Director in the selection of protective athletic equipment and evaluation of the equipment for safety.

A 5% Maintain accurate inventory of training room equipment and supplies, and assist the Athletic Director in preparing training supply requests.

Ongoing 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Bachelor's degree in sports medicine, physical education, kinesiology or a related field. Courses necessary to obtain National Athletic Trainer Certification within 6 months after hire.

EXPERIENCE Hands-on, related internship experience while working toward Bachelor's degree required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Oral and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Knowledge of athletic injuries, treatments and methodologies. Operating knowledge of ultrasound and electric muscle stimulator preferred at hire; required within 3 months after hire.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS CPR and First Aid certifications. National Athletic Trainer Certification required within 6 months after hire.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY Responsible for directing, guiding and evaluating the work of student athletic trainers. Acts as a resource for Athletic Director, student athletes and parents by providing advice and information regarding athlete injuries, training and conditioning programs, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING Work is self-directed and assigned by Athletic Director. This position requires application of position knowledge and analytical skills to accurately and safely evaluate and treat injuries; develop conditioning, training and rehabilitation programs; and make recommendations for return to activity. Work is guided by District policies and procedures and established medical guidelines and protocols. Decision-making requires collaboration with Athletic Director, coaches, physicians, athletes and parents. Supervisor is occasionally involved in decision-making.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS Low exposure to self to cuts and bruises due to minor accidents on the playing field/practices and to disease due to exposure to blood and/or other bodily fluids. May expose student athletes to injury if a person in this position fails to properly evaluate and/or treat an injury or fails to properly develop safe conditioning, training and rehabilitation programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communicate, evaluate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to coordinate and synthesize. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, compute, synthesize and compile.
