About the American Dream School
The American Dream School is a dual-language (Spanish/English) school grades 6-12 in the Mott Haven area of the South Bronx. We offer a project-based, dual-language program that cultivates bilingualism and biliteracy.
 

About the Position
The American Dream School is seeking a Test Preparation Teacher who can help assist our high school students preparing to take the SAT and/or ACT. As a Test Preparation Teacher, you will help students prepare for either the Reading and Writing Sections of the SAT as well as the English and Reading Tests on the ACT or the Math sections of both tests. The ideal candidate is a bilingual (Spanish/English), motivated, and engaging teacher who is committed to serving English Language Learners and cultivating bilingualism and biliteracy.  This candidate will also be able to break down concepts into a language that makes the content accessible for different learning styles and abilities.


Responsibilities
    •    Prepare lesson materials, including technological equipment and bulletin boards
    •    Distribute materials and assist in other time management/organizational duties
    •    Teach classes of at least 10 students a class
    •    Prepare and deliver focused instruction
    •    Provide tutoring for assigned individuals
    •    20-30 after school and Saturday teaching hours a week (not including prep time)
    •    Keeping track of students’ progress in class via progress reports
    •    Providing guidance for students during work time
    •    Help to develop additional strategies for improving students’ performance
    •    Student progress conference evaluation and assessment
    •    Performing other duties as needed
    •    Attend and participate in staff meetings
    •    Use data to effectively plan and modify lessons
    •    Review  data to address student weaknesses
    •    Supervise and manage students in all spaces, upholding ADS core values, rules and policies
    •    Instruct, maintain, and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and material


Position Requirements
    •    Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
    •    New York State Teaching Certification
    •    At least a B.A./B.S.
    •    Previous teaching experience (> 2 years preferably)
    •    700/800 on SAT I Writing, Critical Reading, & Math preferred
    •    700/800 on relevant SAT II Subject Tests preferred
    •    Strong organizational skills
    •    Maintain confidentiality and meets deadlines, complete assignments with consistent accuracy
    •    Tech-savvy; familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google docs/drive
    •    Effective verbal, writing and listening skills.
