Job Description
OUALIFICATIONS:

1. Educational preparation relevant to area of instruction.
2. Prior relevant successful experience preferred.
3. Such other qualifications or alternatives as the Principal and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal, through the Director of Athletics

JOB MISSION: To lead, encourage, and assist students to develop their individual potential for intellectual and emotional growth, resulting in their learning and achievement of high standards of knowledge and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

1. PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

1.1 Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other coaches; apply the best research in the design and development of their sport.

1.2 Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.

2. PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION

2.1 Set short-term and season-long goals for their sport based on sound principles and practices of learning.
2.2 Develop and maintain practice schedules based on short-term and season-long goals and share when appropriate.

3. USE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

3.1 Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase player skills.

4. EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTION

4.1 Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all players achieve those standards.

4.2 Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.

5. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

5.1 Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among players and coach, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.

5.2 Design instructional experiences in which players achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.

6. EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

6.1 Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.

6.2 Participate actively in team/staff meetings.

7. CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

7.1 Be available for player and/or parent conferences.

8. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION

8.1 Work collaboratively to identify areas for athletic improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.

9. ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE WITH SCHOOL, P.V.I.A.C. AND M.I.A.A. REGULATIONS

9.1 Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the athletic program.

EVALUATION: Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Environmental conditions are a means of describing the physical surroundings of a worker in a specific job. This position is performed in a school and field setting where the environmental conditions should have no effect on how the job is performed.

Noise: Level 3 - Moderate level of intensity.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with current Longmeadow Educators Association (Unit A) and Longmeadow School Committee Agreement
