YMCA Buffalo Niagara is comprised of seven branches throughout Western New York, YMCA Resident Camp Weona, and provides program at over 40 community based program sites.

Immediate opening for a full day teacher at Kenmore Middle School. Teacher will be responsible for two half day Universal Pre-K classes.

POSITION SUMMARY:
UPK Teachers are responsible for the development and implementation of classroom curriculum and lesson plans for the Universal Pre-K Program. In addition, Teachers will work closely with classrooms aides and the children in the program to maintain classroom management, learning and social interaction.

STATUS: Non-exempt, part time
SALARY: $16 per hour

HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Develops and implements the curriculum and follows program standards established by the YMCA, New York State Department of Education, and the School District.
  2. Conducts assessments and ensures academic growth for students.
  3. Performs administrative tasks related to the program.
  4. Analyzes survey data. Develops and implements action plans to improve program quality.
  5. Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and school administration.
  6. Provides a safe environment for all activities. Enforces safety rules and report/treat any injuries.
  7. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  8. Carries out other duties as assigned.

  9. QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must meet all requirements as per the contract with the School District and/or the of the local Board of Education.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  3. New York State Teacher Certification in Birth-2nd Grade.
  4. Two years of experience working with children and a background in education is preferred.
  5. Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  6. Current CPR/AED and First Aide certifications are preferred and may be required depending on location.The employee will work primary indoors in an classroom setting with outdoor activities when weather permits. This is a fast paced, active child focused environment that requires constant interaction and attention to the needs of the children. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to: bend, stoop, kneel, twist, sit, reach with hands, grasp, stand, sit, hear, speak, have finger dexterity, walk, run, lift up to 40 pounds, push, pull and have visual acuity. The employee must remain alert at all times. The employee may be required to travel to various locations.TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  7. Successfully complete Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogen trainings before beginning work in the assigned location.
    Completion of New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
