Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) seek passionate innovative educators to assist secondary building leadership (9 - 12) as positions may become available for the 2017 - 2018 school year. PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist the school principal in providing effective leadership to school faculty, staff, and students in all areas of the school's program and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of a comprehensive building level plan for responsive and efficient delivery of student services tailored to the adjustment and discipline needs of the students.

Develops and implements new and innovative ideas for improving the delivery of student education programs.

Provides leadership in designing building level programs and activities to alleviate problems of student attendance.

Assists the principal and staff in developing and implementing a school improvement plan, and sound secondary level philosophies and practices.

Develops and implements yearly performance objectives designed to improve student attendance, discipline, school climate, and student success and dropout rate.

Works with principal in assisting teachers to develop evaluation procedures designed to evaluate student progress in relation to instruction objectives.

Through scheduled classroom observations, assists principal in making regular systematic and accurate appraisals of teachers' instructional practices by monitoring and assessing teachers' professional performance.

Advises and assists teachers with classroom management and resolution of interpersonal relations conflicts between students/student and teacher/student.

Provides leadership in developing a positive school climate and harmonious multicultural, multiethnic educational environment.

Assists principal with establishing and supervising procedures for the security of school facilities and safety of all personnel and students.

Develops and implements master schedule for student and course distribution.

Assumes administrative responsibility of the school in the principal's absence.

Performs any or all Medicaid Administrative Case Management duties, which serve to inform children and their families how to effectively access, use and maintain participation in all health resources under the Federal Medicaid program.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree.

Hold or be eligible for Missouri Certification in secondary school teaching.

Hold or be eligible for Missouri Certification in secondary school administration.

Five (5) years of middle/secondary teaching experience.

Effective skills and abilities in interpersonal relations and communications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Teaching and administrative experience in urban schools.

Experience in school scheduling.

Experience in remediation of student adjustment and discipline needs.

Knowledgeable of conflict resolution models.

Knowledgeable and experience in curriculum plan and effective instructional practices.

Length of work year: 12 months
