Our Albert D. Lawton School is searching for a part-time (0.80 FTE) long-term substitute School Counselor to provide school counseling services to students enrolled in our 6-8 school beginning late February through the end of the 2018-19 school year. At ADL, guidance services are designed to increase and enhance learning and achievement for all students and to assist them in making educational and personal choices that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as responsible members of the community. The school counselors work collaboratively with teachers, parents and students to ensure that all students are successful at school.

The successful candidate will possess the knowledge, skills, linkages, and resources to collaborate with the school team to implement a successful classroom guidance curriculum, support students individually and in small groups, coordinate and advocate for indirect student services, and provide responsive services as needed. The ideal candidate must be a self-directed leader, who understands the social and emotional development of students at the middle school level and who can prioritize guidance services on a daily basis.

The person in this position also works with small groups of at risk students and collaboratively teaches on topics such as teen issues, adolescent development, bullying/harassment, and career planning.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Valid VT Educator license with a 3-64 endorsement
- Middle school counseling and experience working with at risk students preferred
- Demonstrated success in working with students in small groups
- Able to serve as an effective team member in supporting an integrated comprehensive support model for students
- Able to successfully create positive positive and supportive learning environment for students
- Ability to case manage 504 plans as needed
- Strong background in human development, developmental guidance, counseling, and transition to secondary school
- Excellent collaboration and consultation skills

Position pays $250/day. Selected candidate will also qualify for medical insurance (or cash-in-lieu of insurance) .
