QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate PA teacher certification.
BA required in appropriate major study, study of dance preferred but not required. Masters preferred but not required.
Must be able to organize a classroom to deliver the School District of Lancaster Physical Education/Dance program.
Strong communication and motivational skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

JOB GOAL:
To ensure that each student will think critically, communicate effectively, understand cultural heritage and diversity, respect human dignity and be responsible to self and community and become a contributing member of society.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of physical education core content.
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the dance core content.
Provide performing opportunities for students in physical education and dance.
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Maintain good classroom organization, management and discipline.
Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress in order to provide instruction to ensure continuous student growth.
Incorporate equipment and apparatus and use technology where possible to supplement instruction.
Provide School District of Lancaster Physical Education Program for each student in conjunction with the goals of the Strategic Plan.
Maintain student records including all required paperwork.
Communicate regularly with parents and be available for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Pursue ongoing professional growth opportunities.
Attend staff meetings, and department meetings and serve on building and District committees as required.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain equipment inventory.
Manage emergency situation (student hurt during class).
Perform safety checks on all equipment.

EVALUATION:
Evaluation will be determined according to Teacher Contract Evaluation.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Physical Demands:
Must be physically fit.
Demonstrates fine and gross motor movements.
Sitting 1% of the time, and 99% moving, standing and walking.
Kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, and squatting.
Ability and physical strength to spot students at all levels within safety limits.
Ability to move at various levels with varied force, time and flow.
Ability to climb stairs.
Sensory Abilities:
Normal/Corrected vision.
Visual acuity to read correspondence.
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
Normal/Corrected hearing.
Temperament:
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Must be flexible and demonstrate patience, and have a positive attitude, cooperative spirit, and sensitivity in relating to student, staff, parents, and community.
Mental Demands:
Ability to interpret detailed written and verbal communications.
Frequently fast-paced, high pressure situation.
Environment:
Normal physical education/dance performance environment.
Aware of outside environment issues.
