SUMMARY
Teaches intermediate, grades 6-8 school students non-departmental academic, social and motor skills in public schools by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and health to students in a classroom, utilizing the District subject matter Pacing Guides adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and safe learning climate in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences, newsletters, e-mail, and other means to discuss students' progress on a regular basis.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an environment that is conducive for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • M. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided the school and district level.
  • Use audiovisual aids, computers, SmartBoards, or other interactive technology to supplement and support lessons
  • Keeps accurate records of each student's progress and attendance.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day where appropriate.
  • Administers group State tests in accordance with state testing program.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Keep up-do-date with current educational issues
  • Maintains control that is conducive to safety on the playground.
  • Coordinates class field trips.


  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Directly supervises 1-2 adult employees in the classroom, when appropriate. Carries out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring students' behavior and activities in the classroom, on the playground, and during school events.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to speak grammatically correct English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, curriculum guides, or state and school board regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, administrators, business and community.

    MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

    Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions, work with and impart mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, precentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    Valid Indiana Elementary Teacher's License K-6 (7/8 Non-Department)
