Media Specialists work as a collaborator, change agent, and leader to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information; to instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information; and to collaborate with teachers to design and implement instruction, and assess student learning. This position will report to the School Administrator.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Create an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive (Leader).
  2. Serve as an essential member of the instructional and leadership teams to bring an on-going commitment to the changing K-12 curriculum, innovative teaching, and staying current on best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment, and embracing and understanding the dynamic role that the integration of technology contributes to student learning. (Leader).
  3. Advocate for the school library program to include communication to stakeholders through the school website and newsletters (Leader).
  4. Work with teachers and administrators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources (Instructional Partner).
  5. Provide and plan professional learning opportunities within the school and district (Instructional Partner).
  6. Provide leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information (Information Specialist).
  7. Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, supplement school resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers, and provide 24/7 access to library services (information Specialist).
  8. Assist students in becoming critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skilful researchers, and ethical users of information (Teacher).
  9. Work collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the school based policies of the school library program, and to guide and direct all activities related to it (Program Administrator).
  10. Develop the school library program vision and mission and implement action plans with measurable goals and objectives (Program Administrator).
  11. Arrange for flexible scheduling of the school library media center to provide student accessibility to staff and resources at point of need (Program Administrator).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Ability to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library media program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.

Requirements : CERTIFICATION:

Required: S5 Media Specialist or higher; Preferred: T5 or higher in a teaching field in addition to Media Specialist certification OR S5 or higher in Instructional Technology in addition to Media Specialist certification;
Passed the GACE Program Admissions Assessment or have exemption eligibility AND passed the GACE in Library Media Science AND GACE Education Ethics Program Entry.

EDUCATION:

Required: Master's degree Library Science; Preferred: Advanced degree in Instructional Technology and/or Education.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Zero to one year of media specialist experience; Preferred: Classroom teaching experience and/or media specialist experience.

Salary Range: FY'20 APS Teacher Salary Schedule
