This posting is for the purpose of creating a pool of qualified applicants for Gifted Resource Teachers in the event openings occur in the 2019-2020 school year.
Minimum requirements: Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for Gifted Resource Teacher positions. This is a 10-month position which requires the following: Bachelor's degree and at least three years successful classroom teaching experience in either a regular or gifted education setting; degree or endorsement in gifted education and knowledge of gifted pedagogy is preferred. Requirements for this position include the completion of an add-on endorsement in Gifted Education from the Commonwealth of Virginia by the end of the third full year of employment in the position. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a transfer out of the gifted resource teacher position. Successful candidates for the position must agree to this requirement in writing. In extenuating circumstances, a waiver may be requested by contacting Dr. Nicole DeVries, Director, Office of K-12 and Gifted Programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning prior to the end of third full year of employment in the position. A decision regarding the waiver will be communicated to the employee.
Gifted Resource Teachers are expected to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and assist classroom teachers in meeting the academic and social and emotional needs of gifted learners. Gifted Resource Teachers work in collaboration with other teachers to provide compacted, accelerated, and differentiated curriculum, instruction, and assessment for intellectually gifted students; support gifted visual arts, gifted dance education students, and other artistically gifted students; plan and conduct professional learning activities, develop and manage program communication, assist in the screening and referral processes, and work collaboratively with parents of gifted and talented students.
