General Responsibilities:

To aid each student, consistent with his or her abilities and education needs to: 1. develop competence in the basic learning skills; 2. progress on the basis of achievement; 3. qualify for further education and/or employment; 4. develop ethical standards of behavior and participate in society as a responsible family member and citizen; 5. develop a positive and realistic concept of self and others.

Essential Duties:

Uses appropriate theories, methods, and strategies to teach state standards and skills.

Maintains a positive and cooperative learning environment in the classroom.

Demonstrates effective classroom management skills, and follows the School wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS).

Assesses students to determine appropriate instruction and to determine differentiated strategies.

Administers, maintains, and submits assessment scores in a timely manner.

Communicates on a regular basis with students and parents regarding student progress.

Creates quarterly and year-long plans and works collaboratively with grade level teaching colleagues.

Collaborates with other teachers during grade level or whole staff meetings.

Provides students with computer instruction and encourages computer and technology skills.

Organizes classroom space appropriately for the grade and subject being taught.

Demonstrates effective knowledge of and interaction with parents and community.

Demonstrates effective knowledge and use of instructional facilities, equipment, and materials.

Demonstrates effective knowledge of and interpersonal relationships with students as individuals and as groups.

Demonstrates effective professional relationships with peers and specialists.

Provides effective supervision of volunteers and paraprofessionals when applicable.

Works effectively with peers leaders, supervisors, and administrators.

Demonstrates effective knowledge of and compliance with policies, regulations, and guidelines in meeting assigned duties.

Performs duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.

Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.

Attends all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal, or Assistant Principal.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent academic language model in both Spanish and English (Native or Native-like, all applicants will be required to take a language competency exam).

Demonstrate effective knowledge of and is sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.

Familiar with second language acquisition pedagogy.

Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field, or in the field of teaching, as well as the improvement of the profession.

Assist with the planning and development of the dual immersion program beyond each school year, to include curriculum development and community outreach.

Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching and learning.

Ability to involve parents and community members in student learning.

Serve as role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Early/Primary education or Elementary education. .

Previous Dual Language Immersion experience is preferred.

Have an understanding of culture history and Spanish speaking people and countries.

Knowledge of Early Childhood education.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
