Job Description

Qualifications:

• A minimum of an Associate Degree (or matriculated) in Early Childhood Education, Social Work or Human Services. Experience working with at risk families and infants and toddlers.
• Bilingual: English/Spanish is required
• Provide support to other Family Service Workers
• Have excellent interpersonal and advocacy skills.
• Must be able to give feedback and work cooperatively on a team
• Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills a must.
• Occasional nights and weekends are required
• Reliable transportation is required

Responsibilities:

• Must read, fully comprehend and implement Subpart B, Early Childhood Development and Health Services & Subpart C, Family and Community Partnership of the Head Start Performance standards related to infants, toddlers and preschool age children.
• Maintain an assigned caseload of children and their parents and ensure that parents and children are receiving comprehensive Early Head Start services. Documentation and follow-up is essential.
• Adhere to Early Head start Policies and Procedures.
• Establish and maintain a supportive relationship with each assigned family and maintain that relationship as the family transition between program options.
• Must be made familiar and build community collaboration to support families.
• Maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid training.
• Adhere to the Community Group “Code of Conduct” and Dress Code. Adhere to the confidentiality policies.
• Other duties as required by the EHS Director
• Attend up to 2 Policy Council meetings per year.
• Encourage and support families around opportunities for parent's participation in a variety of program activities that support child and adult development, including policy and program decision making.
• Organize in conjunction with other EHS staff, Teachers and FCC Educators opportunities to engage in program events such as; cooking classes, literacy events and open house throughout the year to reflect the child/rens program participation.

Family Child Care Option:

• Support FCC Educators as needed in meeting the 2 home visits per year for parents enrolled in the full year family childcare option.
• Meet with the Education/Child Development and Disabilities Coordinator for updates on progress of children enrolled in family childcare options.
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the parent, the FCC Educator, the Education/Child Development and Disabilities manager and community partners in the Child Family Planner meetings (CFP).

Center Based Child Care Option:

• Support teachers as needed in at least 2 home visits per year for parents enrolled in the full year childcare program.
• Meet with the Child Development Specialist, Education and Disabilities and Center Directors for updates on progress of children enrolled in the center.
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the parent, the Lead Teacher, the Child Development Specialist and community partners in the Child Family Planner meeting (CFP).

With All Families:

• Provide enrollment visit in the family home or enrollment meeting with the family of their choice (work place, playground etc.) to begin the application process.
• Assist and participate with home visit with EHS Teachers and EHS FCC Educators when needed.
• Create with the parent(s) a meaningful Family Partnership Agreement.
• Must establish a rapport with parent(s) and maintain healthy boundaries.
• Make outside referrals and follow up with families.
• Recruit Families to participate in the Volunteer and Substitute Training (VAST)
• Model effective strategies for parents to use with their child based on sound child development and mental health theories and practices.
• Assist the Health/Nutrition Specialist in obtaining health and dental information.
• Meet regularly with EHS Director for case management review
• Provide information support and referrals services on an ongoing basis.
• Plan parenting training as it relates to the family in a group or individual sessions.
Provide approved childcare and coordinate transportation with the transportation coordinator for the agency.
• Encourage parents to participate in the FCC homes, classroom, evening activities and community events.

Reports and Recordkeeping:

• All information must be recorded in ChildPlus.net immediately (same day information is obtained) following contact with family.
• Participate in recruitment and outreach activities.
• Keep accurate records for the PIR and other reports as requested.
• Keep accurate records and follow-up on attendance and missed home visits.
• All Referrals must be made in timely manner (within 48 hours, unless it is an emergency situation, then must be completed immediately). Follow up with family and referring agencies, documentation must be made of such referrals in ChildPlus.net.
• Plan and create parent involvement opportunities in the home, the EHS program sites.
• Assist parents in planning and facilitate monthly Parent Center/FCC Committee meetings
• Maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents and staff.
• Generate reports per Director Request.

Professional Development:

• Participate in the annual Pre-Service professional Development as well as present content area to EHS FCC and EHS Center Based staff.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
• Increase knowledge of infants/toddler child development including mental health
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Attend and travel to Head Start/Early Head Start trainings/conferences /content area of FSW when applicable.

The Family Service worker reports to the Early Head Start Director.
