The Burlington School District is seeking a Senior Facilities Technician. The Senior Facilities Technician is an integral part of the Property Services Management Team responsible for maintaining facilities for the Burlington School District and is responsible for overseeing building trades personnel.

Education/Experience
  • HS Diploma/GED required, college degree a plus.
  • Professional license or building trade certification. Additional experience (fire alarm, telecom, HVAC) and certifications preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience in commercial trades.
  • Experience with building management, work order, and preventive systems.
  • Personnel management experience leading teams, assigning tasks, and managing work on construction projects.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills using e-mail, calendar, Google Docs, Excel and Word.
  • Experience with work order and preventive maintenance systems, working cooperatively and professionally with customers (other district employees, administrators, vendors, code enforcement, contractors and the public), and managing building trades contractors, preferred.


Legal & Regulatory Knowledge

  • Familiar with life safety and building codes.
  • Familiar with workplace safety laws, regulations, and practices (for example, OSHA/VOSHA, asbestos lead management).


Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):
  • General oversight of technical trades (HVAC, electrical, phone/data/intercom/sound system, fire & security alarms and plumbing, transportation, and work tasks)
  • Supervise and evaluate technical trades personnel.
  • Administration of the district work order and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Maintain information in preventive maintenance system.
  • Train trades employees on work order and PM system.
  • Acquire and maintain license as Asbestos Site Inspector.
  • Administration of District AHERA Asbestos Mgmt Plans for all district locations.
  • Acquire and maintain Lead RRP certification and maintain district license as certified firm.
  • Work with BED and other energy consultants to continuously ensure energy efficiency and conservation upgrades.
  • Facilitate training (including safety) for the trades for annual in-service programs as well as other educational venues.
  • Accomplish special projects assigned by the Director of Property Services/designee.
  • Assume assigned duties in the absence of both the Director and Assistant Director of Property Services.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.


Candidate should be available to work a flexible work schedule to include evening meetings and supervision.

The Burlington School District serves almost 4000 students, has approximately 1100 employees, and includes over 700,000 square feet of facility, not including grounds.
