The Advisor is the key coordinator driving the activities of the student and family support team. The Advisor helps foster a high touch approach to educational support and exhibits superior customer service skills along with a commitment and desire to provide the best experience possible for students and families.

AS AN ADVISOR, YOU WILL...
  • Oversee the entire on-boarding process for assigned students; Serve as a single point of contact for all non-instructional issues after placement, ensuring students have all necessary equipment, and know how and when to access their courses;
  • Contact late starting or missing students by phone and work to quickly on-board them;
  • Plan and deliver online orientation sessions; Monitor student participation; Coordinate with K12 for the delivery of monthly online parent training events;
  • Moderate homeroom/advisory activities and create required collateral, e.g. PowerPoint decks, handouts, etc.;
  • Serve as a liaison between the student and other academic teachers and administration;
  • Complete "winback" calls for students wishing to withdraw;
  • Examine academic progress and activity of students on their caseload on a regular basis; Initiate recurring contact by phone with students and their families when students begin showing signs of failure/struggle as determined by grades, missed log-ins, course activity, and number of missing assignments; Arrange and moderate advisor/parent/student/teacher conferences as needed to address performance concerns; Assist students in creating a personal action plan;
  • Contact every student on their caseload by phone for a monthly conference call; Answer all phone calls from students, staff and parents; Send out daily and weekly blasts of important school-level information;
  • Assist with planning and implementing standardized testing;
  • Attend staff meetings; Attend and participate in school and K12 sponsored Professional Development Events;
  • Assist in the development and updating of school policies and procedures via the student and parent handbooks.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning. Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Three (3) years of experience in education OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities
  • Customer service orientation
  • Experience coordinating academically-oriented clubs and extracurricular activities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Flexible schedule; Ability to travel as needed, up to 10% of the time within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations
  • Ability to pass required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with the proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)
  • An ability to support and guide adults as well as students
