      DESCRIPTION

      The Student Success Specialist is someone who believes all students can learn to be successful in school, recognizes the potential in all students, and has the ability to develop relationships with students who exhibit challenging behaviors. The Student Success Specialist will help students build problem-solving skills, cope with and manage stress, and work toward emotional self-regulation, while helping students recognize their own strengths and build self-confidence.

      The person assigned to this position will be trained to recognize and respond to the signs and symptoms of trauma. They will also collaborate with building staff in creating and implementing plans for positive and proactive interactions and interventions for those students who demonstrate a need for additional supports.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:
      • Build positive and supportive relationships with students.
      • Work collaboratively with the school staff, specifically the Behavior Interventionist, Principal, and Bearcat Coach (if applicable) to provide trauma-informed interventions in order to support students in resetting and enabling them to reintegrate back into the classroom environment.
      • Establish and staff the Student Support Center in the assigned building.
      • Provide check-ins and check-outs for students who are identified in the school setting.
      • Implement and sustain trauma-informed practices that promote student success and empowerment.
      • Collaborate with building staff to support students and families in implementing and sustaining trauma-informed practices.
      • Collect data on student interventions, time, frequency, and duration based on referrals and time in the Student Success Center.
      • Communicate and collaborate with school staff to determine interventions for the development of Behavior Intervention Plans for students.

      Attend and participate in professional development related to the position, including Restorative Practices, Culturally Relevant Practices, and Trauma-Informed Schools trainings.
      • Meet students in the Student Success Center to provide the following:
        • Emotional Regulation (deep breathing, recognizing triggers, expressing feelings)
        • Conflict Resolution (compromising, sharing active listening)
        • Focusing (listening, asking for help, completing tasks independently)
        • Interacting with others (having conversations, empathy, listening, personal space)

      QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
      Demonstrated success in working with students and families of diverse backgrounds.
      • Ability to quickly establish and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships, build trust in a limited time, and engage with a broad range of school-based staff.
      • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills in group facilitation, managing individual students and groups of students.
      • Cultural awareness and ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race and equity and knowledge of racial equity and racial justice in the context of public education.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of audiences.
      • Ability to balance multiple priorities with proven ability to anticipate challenges, solve problems, and maintain a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations.
      • Strong time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
      • High School Diploma required.
