    SUMMARY This position is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting District Ethernet/Fiber Optic network in a campus enterprise topology. Serves as the district resource for all connectivity and computer operations required for all schools to use the computer technology in a networked environment. These responsibilities include switches, routers, firewall, wireless controllers, VPN hosts, and district telephone PBX systems.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Daily 35% Maintain the operability and availability of all District network equipment. This includes wireless, switches, routers, Internet connectivity, and cabling for all schools and computer room.

    Daily 15% Design and support district LAN, WAN, VLAN, NEC phone system, wireless infrastructure, and systems applications that support the mission of the District.

    Daily 10% Define district network standards, policies and access rights, network hardware backup schedules, computer security procedures, and perform network backups according to established schedule.

    Daily 10% Backup the Systems Administrator to ensure the operability and availability of all servers across the district. This includes email, SAN, DHCP servers, Web, and all other servers that support the schools and administration building.

    Daily 5% Respond to any trouble tickets reported by users and computer technicians according to Technology Services Service Level Agreements.

    Daily 5% Act as a technical resource for other District Departments including Maintenance. (HVAC controllers, security cameras, door/alarm systems, PA/Bell systems, lighting, refrigeration, alarms), Public Information Office (Channel 8, video transport), and Community Health Clinic.

    Monthly 5% Develop requirements for upgrading existing network to facilitate new technology and growth including disaster recovery planning and implementation.

    Weekly 5% Establish and maintain professional relationship with vendors that we depend on for technical support (EagleNet, MicroTech-Tel, Brocade, Meru, McAfee, etc.)

    Weekly 5% Be available for on call support after hours and on weekends when needed

    Ongoing 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND TRAINING Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced training in Computer Science, Information Technology or Telecommunications.

    EXPERIENCE Over five years experience in Network Administration, Security, Mobile Communications Technology

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Advanced computer skills, computer software skills, information technology experience, telecommunications, experience with routers, switches, wireless protocols, routing tables, technical documentation, internet filtering, and ability to plan and initiate necessary changes to the infrastructure.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED: CCNA, CCNP or Brocade/Arris Equivalent, CISSP, Aruba Wireless Engineer

    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY This position has no direct reports, has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as district representative for other district school and departments for managing, coordinating, and collaborating on special projects and requested upgrades.

    JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING Most work performed occurs in support of the wireless and network infrastructure. Work is largely self-directed. Decision making skills will be relied on for quickly assessing and addressing customer needs and professional collaboration with other district departments and the user community.

    SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS This position requires occasional heavy lifting, use of ladders, and power tools. Caution must be exercised in order to prevent significant injury.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    MENTAL FUNCTIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Frequently required to compare, copy, and negotiate.
