Description PURPOSE OF JOB

Teaches one or more subjects to students in public secondary schools by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructs students in a blended learning format and monitor progress to determine if they have met course requirements.

Evaluate pupil progress, towards KCPS graduation requirements and Extended Learning Opportunities Department expectations.

Keeps an accurate attendance record.

Communicates with parents to discuss student progress.

Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training, and Extended Learning Department professional meetings.

Monitor and support highly at-risk students as early as ninth grade.

Develop and provide instructional plans and goal setting for recovering and earning credits.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with students.

Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention and other strategies that can prevent initial failures.

Communicate effectively with teachers, staff and administrators to advocate for students.

Collect and submit information to the Extended Learning Opportunities Department as necessary or as requested.

Establish, maintain, and support standards of discipline in accordance with the current discipline policy approved by the Board of Education.

Maintain inventory of equipment and materials assigned to the SOAR Classroom and recommend replacement and maintenance as required.

Assume overall responsibility for program implementation and results.

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.

Receive, distribute, and reply to communication sent to the SOAR Classroom from district and/or site administration.

Invite motivational/guest speakers to lecture to the students.

Perform other duties as assigned, including special assignments or emergency situations as determined by the building administration and office of Extended Learning.

Maintain an inviting and comfortable learning atmosphere.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Elementary or Secondary Education (Any Subject) from four-year college or university.

Basic computer skills: word processing, data tracking software and ability to troubleshoot technology issues.

SUCCESS FACTORS

Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching at risk students

students.

Teaching experience in urban schools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee

frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10

pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision,

and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 185 day calendar; 8hrs/day, 5 days/week

by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
