Part-Time Pre-K Literacy Coach

CLI's Literacy Coaches are Independent Contractors that provide professional development to early elementary (Pre-K) teachers in all aspects of balanced literacy. Through content-focused coaching, Literacy Coaches provide teachers with individualized and situation-specific assistance focused on literacy content, pedagogy, and student learning. They pre-conference with teachers to discuss literacy goals, lesson plan and implementation, and core issues in effective lesson design. They also work with the teacher to decide on the level of support (modeling, co-teaching, observing) needed from the Literacy Coach in the lesson. After the lesson, the teacher and Literacy Coach reflect on student learning by analyzing student work, considering the effectiveness of the lesson, and planning for the goals of future lessons.

Each CLI Literacy Coach must have at least 5 years' experience in a PreK classroom and be able to pass all required clearances and background checks. A background in Special Education is preferred. An education Master's degree is preferred.

Other desired qualities: 
Experienced yet Open: Literacy Coaches are experts in early literacy instruction and have the teaching/implementation experience necessary to recognize and model instructional effectiveness. Yet, they are lifelong learners- open to new ideas and practices presented by CLI and the teachers/administrators we support.
Collaborative: Literacy Coaches work with teachers to take a solution-based approach to literacy instruction roadblocks, focusing teachers on past successes and how to expand on them. Literacy Coaches show perseverance when faced with challenges and inspire the teachers and students to do the same.
Committed: Literacy Coaches are mission-driven, self-starters that show initiative and are able to schedule and complete contacted coaching hours and provide literacy leadership in the schools they support.
