The Paralegal will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the department's docket of cases, including calendaring of administrative hearing and arbitration dates;
  • Preparing drafts subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, routine motions, and other legal documents for approval by attorneys;
  • Assisting with review and production of e-discovery, including privilege review and coding in Relativity;
  • Assembling, reviewing and managing document productions and hearing/arbitration exhibits;
  • Assisting attorneys during hearings and arbitrations; and
  • Other tasks as assigned by attorneys.


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Paralegal must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required : Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

Type of Experience and Number of Years : At least two years of paralegal experience in a litigation practice; preferably familiar with the administrative hearing process before the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, and public sector grievance arbitration proceedings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Ability to file documents electronically and in person;
  • Perform basic legal research;
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lexis and experience with docket management and document review software;
  • Experience with Relativity strongly preferred; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Residency Expectation :

  • As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), an employee must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago or become a resident within six months of the date of his/her employment with Chicago Public Schools.
