The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.

Within the Office of Early Childhood Education, the Data Strategist will directly work with Data Manager and will be responsible for managing the collection and evaluation of data to ensure that our Early Childhood priorities and goals are on-track, providing high quality early childhood education to all children served. The Data Strategist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Manage data systems for department's program quality and child assessment systems (e.g., CLASS and Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool)
  • Support development of school improvement plans and implications for professional development and Instructional Support Leader resource allocations
  • Liaise with Network Instructional Support Leaders and Network Chiefs on school metrics and analysis, and uses data in real time to develop and execute aggressive improvement plans focused on school leadership, teacher PD, and student intervention
  • Lead development of plans to improve data collection efforts for state reporting requirements by monitoring, managing, and analyzing data on student demographics and coordinating data improvement process with managers in other departments
  • Guide Networks in strategic planning by grounding decision-making in outcome data
  • Create early childhood reports and provide relevant and timely data for various internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist Chief of Schools in communicating school performance to families and communities
  • Conduct statistical analysis on classroom quality indicators and student educational outcomes to identify implication for data driven decision making and program improvement
  • Support reporting and disseminate research information and findings to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide support to OECE Data Manager regarding data collection and analysis, current program models and enrollment figures, and any other areas regarding program capacity and special education blended classrooms
  • Provide mentorship and training to full-time and part-time employees in the data group, including understanding of early childhood data


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Data Strategist must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required:

A bachelor's degree in education, measurement, psychology, social science, public policy, economics, or related field including quantitative coursework; Master's or Doctoral degree strongly preferred

Type of Experience and Number of Years:

4-5 years of data mining and data analysis experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to bring projects to a close with minimal supervision

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet continuous critical deadlines

• Knowledge of SAS, Python, SQL or R required

• Expert user of Microsoft and Google office suites

• Ability to write advanced queries, produce reports and strong analytical, organizational and communication skills required

• Familiarity of CPS data systems is a plus
