SUMMARY Perform adds, moves, and changes to the telephone systems throughout the District. Maintain, program and repair the systems, and ensure they function properly. Service District telecommunications equipment, including Cisco UC IP phone system, Unity Call Manager voice mail systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Interact directly with end users to ensure accurate needs analysis, to clearly define and resolve problems, and to complete work and service order requests.

Maintain optimal performance of telephone service, including monitoring services and equipment, effectively troubleshooting problems, and interfacing with common carriers/vendors to resolve problems.

Relocate telecommunications equipment, including performing adds, moves, and changes.

Provide cross training and share knowledge with other technicians.

Inspect telecommunications equipment installations and repairs and verify that they meet District standards.

Assist Telecommunications Specialist II in maintaining accurate records of changes related to the District's Universal Dial Plan and the Site Dial Plan. Report any changes to the Telecommunications Specialist II.

Install telecommunications equipment and provide wiring needed for either data or voice.

Provide technical assistance in the design, planning, and installation of communication network and hardware requirements.

Maintain an accurate parts inventory for equipment in the telecommunications warehouse.

Maintain the interior/exterior cleanliness of the District vehicle. Keep truck stocked with parts inventory.

Develop/complete preventative maintenance and/or corrective action schedule for telecomm equipment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING High school diploma or equivalent, plus technical courses in Cisco UC installation, programming and maintenance, Unity Voice mail configuration, maintenance, database administration, voice communications training, and cable installation.

EXPERIENCE 5 years experience as a telephone technician, including physical plant, hardware, software, voice transmission, and circuits.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Interpersonal, troubleshooting, problem solving, basic math, multi-tasking, and computer skills. Operating knowledge of and experience with Cisco UC IP phone system, Unity Call Manager Voicemail system and Emergency Responder system. Windows, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Google Docs, and database applications). Must be able to communicate using voicemail, Outlook Email, texting and PC messaging.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS Valid Colorado driver's license. Cisco UC, Unity Call Manager and Emergency Responder installation and maintenance certification.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Act as a technical resource to District staff by providing support for Cisco UC phone system, Unity Call Manager voicemail and Emergency Responder system.

CONTACTS Daily contact with persons within/outside department and vendors/suppliers to resolve problems or negotiate matters. Monthly contact with Century Link, Comcast, police, sheriff, and other governmental agencies, and students to furnish or obtain information.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS High exposure to self and others to cuts due to falling from high places and equipment use. Medium exposure to self and others to bruises and fractured bones due to falling from high places and equipment use, and to self to hernia due to lifting heavy equipment. Low exposure to self to chemical burns due to leaking batteries on District truck, and to self and others to loss of limb/sight, disfigurement, and fatality due to automobile accidents. Low exposure to self and others due to loss of sight due to flying debris.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and areas involving natural gas lines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to analyze, communicate, coordinate, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile. The employee is regularly required to compare and instruct. The employee is occasionally required to copy and negotiate.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING Work is assigned by Coordinator and/or Manager. This position requires technical knowledge and analytical skills to identify communications problems and determine actions necessary for repair. Decision making is guided by product/service/system specifications, department and District policies and procedures, and precedent. Decisions require collaboration with department staff and District personnel with telecommunications needs. Errors in working on telecommunications equipment/systems could disable the District's wide area network, resulting in temporary loss of communication District-wide. Supervisor is occasionally involved in decision making.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES Duties require cross training in cabling and design; electronics; reading and interpreting blueprints and floor plans; and knowledge of wiring into District intercom, paging, fire, and Internet systems. Responsibilities extend across several District areas on a daily basis.
