PATROL CORPORAL, DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY

Location: Transportation , Northeast Terminal

Work Days: Traditional 2 45 work days

FTE: 1.0

S alary Range: $43,432 - $52,800 annually

E ssential Functions and Objectives:

The Patrol Corporal is an armed and uniformed security patrol position with a basic function of providing a secure environment for the students, staff and visitors of all Denver Public Schools and facilities and to protect all District property.

This position would exercise limited supervision over field operations during their shift. Responsible for making command decisions and allocating resources as needed during the shift based upon duty needs. Responsible for fielding after-hour's requests, emergency scheduling and communicating with Department of Safety administration as needed. Will be responsible for giving direction to assigned personnel to include patrol, security resource specialists, dispatchers and security technicians. The Corporal will relinquish command as soon as a higher ranking officer arrives on scene and incident command is transferred. The primary purpose of the position is to broaden field supervision of Operations Team and maintain a chain of command during events.

- Fulfill all essential functions and requirements as outlined in the job description for Security Patrol Officer.

- Supervise a shift of Operations personnel including both armed and unarmed field staff.

- Maintain chain of command and adhere to both District and Department protocols and policies.

- Will report directly to an Operations Lieutenant.

- Will work assigned shifts that may change as determined by Operations Commander or his/her designee.

- Will provide Operations Sergeants with ongoing information regarding performance, attendance, punctuality and other job related information of officers they are supervising on each assigned shift.

- This position will not have authorization to issue disciplinary action or complete performance evaluations on security staff supervised but will work with Operations Sergeant on appropriate action and follow up.

- Will field calls after-hours regarding notifications that would normally rise to the level of an Operations Sergeant and triage/mitigate accordingly.

- Will give direction to assigned personnel and monitor shift operations accordingly.

- Make decisions to approve overtime or early release as needed.

- Fill open shifts after-hours due to call offs or last minute requests/needs.

- May be assigned Training Officer duties as needed.

- Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

R equired:

- Must be able to obtain and maintain all required licenses issued by the City and County of Denver and /or a Denver Police Special Police Officer authorization.

- Valid Colorado Driver's License. Driving record must meet the District's insurability requirements at hire and during employment.

- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

- Ability to qualify for and maintain a concealed weapons permit issued in compliance with State of Colorado statutes.

- Maintain all licenses and certifications required now or in the future.

- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and utilize critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills.

Preferred:

- Previous supervisor experience.

Education Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
